Few pints during my early ticking career, mainly at the Midland round the back of Cheltenham station, with Chris Fudge off V60 ... Spring 91. Not much choice back then so made do ... passable cask bitter when kept well.

Went to some family celebration at a carvery outside Burham-on-Sea. This is what was on, a (historical) tick at least.

From old tasting notes. Label says "brewed by Whitbread PLC in London, England". Hazy Amber orange color topped by a thick creamy beige head. Lovely toffeeish malt aroma. Smooth, creamy complex, spicy malt flavor has an underlying fruitiness to it. Nicely balanced by light bitter hops in finish.

Cask at The Nags Head in Chichester. Copper coloured with a good head. Has a small soapy aroma and a slightly sweet taste.

Cask at the Westbourne. Pours a clear, rich copper with pretty much no head. Nuts, mild toast and mild fruits on the nose. Some doughy malts and burnt nuts in the flavor with light sweetness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Very dry finish with heavy herbal and leafy hops. Nothing special.

Cask. Brownish-amber. Rather sweet. Malty. Amber malt, chocolate, toffee flavors. Slightly roasted, slightly earthy taste. Very light on the hops. Nice enough. Not terribly interesting but a well-made bitter.

[25/4/2008, on tap at the King Alfred, Chippenham] Large and lasting head; smooth but bland, dull and watery; a bit of malt but little else. [Re-rate 16/12/2009, cask at Great Expectations, Reading], Good deep rich malt aroma. Sweet and buttery, sour oak wood comes through then something unpleasant and rotting in the finish. Not a pleasant experience.
