A higher gravity seasonal version of the year-round Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale. It’s made with Westmalle Trappist yeast that creates those curious phenolic off-flavors that are freakin’ everyone out these days. Massively dosed with boatloads of wheat and pale malt and finishes with a big, hoppy ending.

At a tasting, thanks DSG, small stable bubbly head, hazy lemon yellow colour, aroma is a melange of citrus including pomello, sweet grapefruit, grapefruit and lemon with some jam and candy in the back, sweet candy sweetness, some citrus tobbaco and herbs, assertive bitterness. Extremely enjoyable and very good.

Bottle on Amtrak Train 27 - The Empire Builder ( from Binny’s South Loop) - 05/11/12. Golden in appearance with a thin off white head which retains well. Nose comprises Belgian yeast esters, pineapple and other tropical fruit tones. Tastes of bitter grapefruit, Belgian yeasts, orange pith, spice, a little pine, light caramel malt. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, smooth drinking, bitter finish. Enjoyable stuff!

Bottle shared at a tasting at Dancing Camel Florentin. Slightly hazy deep golden. Aroma of hops, a bit stale, and some maltiness. Sweet malty flavor with caramel, a bit of bread, light fruitiness, candy-ish notes and a bitter hoppy finish. Medium-bodied.

330 at the Bayou. Pours a cloudy orange color. A sweet bubblegum aroma with some phenols and citrus. Comes across as a hoppy rich and clear BSA with citrus, big sweet malts, some banana. Good. Very well made.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 9/23/12
Aroma: The aroma is fresh pine hops, citrus, grass, Belgian yeast, and a little spice
Appearance: It pours a clear orange color with a white head and mostly coating lace
Flavor: The taste is lightly sweet, and medium-plus hoppy, with mostly bitter flavors
Palate: The body is medium, it has a slightly sticky feel, a soft carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: This is a good beer, but it isn't a Wild Ale. I didn't taste anything that felt wild at all. As a hoppy Belgian style beer, this one would be on target, in fact, I really liked it, it just isn't a Wild Ale.

Bottle - thanks Don! Pours clear light amber with a medium white head and nice lacing. Aroma is light grapefruit, pine, bread and a note of yeast. Flavor much the same, but the yeast character is more dominant, includes notes of white grape. Light tart, light sweet, light bitter finish.

Sample at BrewPub
A - Dark orange to yellow and hazy
S - Not much going on with the nose. Hints of grass and lemons
T - Nuttiness and some bitterness up front. Some wheat and apples are present. Very bitter finish with no funk or tart.
M - medium mouthfeel and light carbonation.
O - Was expecting more. It’s more fruity due to the different yeast straing but not very complex.
