The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

At a tasting, many thanks, small stable bubbly head, opaque dark brown color, aroma of chillie pepper chocolate and a ashy hint, flavor of sweet chocolate with biscotti and a hint of chillie. Nice and enjoyable.

Tap at Bishops Arms, Östersund. An astounding stout, that I must try again to verify the score. Beautiful vanilla, chocolate, no sourness. Awesome. Rerated. Did get some biscotti. Not as good as first time ( this time from bottle). 4.3 to 3.9

Can @Bir&Fud Bottega (Rome). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma media color cappuccino. Al naso sentori di caffè, cioccolato, vaniglia, alcol, liquirizia, leggerissima nota metallica. In bocca è equilibrata, caffettosa con note di vaniglia. Corpo pieno, carbonazione media. Buona.

16 oz. can. Pours black, with a medium, frothy, tan head. Coffee, cinnamon, walnuts, rye, and black pepper. Very sweet, with pretty sharp, roasted bitterness. Heavy body, with a smooth, silky, and syrupy mouthfeel. This is a mellow, complex, and quality stout.

Pours black from the bottle. The head is tan and creamy. Aroma is like something from an ice cream parlor: vanilla, chocolate, licorice, cookies & cream. Taste is very sweet, full of vanilla, cough drop, licorice. Very much a dessert beer. For a beer with added coffee the coffee flavors are surprisingly restrained. Mild roasted coffee notes play out at the finish. I would hesitate to call it a bitterness. Body is thick, syrupy, with a mild carbonation. Overall this is a good beer but not a great one, the sweetness is a touch too monotone for this one to rise to the next level.

A black beer, a head is dense, medium and brown. Aroma has dark fruitness and sweetness of raisins, coffee, some chocolate and roastiness. Taste is quite sweet, chocolate, coffee, roastiness, dark and dried fruitness. Drying in the end. Surprisingly, only medium bodied. Different than normal IS, there is a strong dried fruitness.

Can, 11C. Almost black with a tan head that's soon a coat. Aroma is crude and boozy, but there's stout under there too: _it_ seems roasty and as though it might have some punch. Over the top is a smell like those syrups chain coffee places offer to ruin your drink - burnt nuts, sugar, fake vanilla. Pretty light bodied considering. Lowish carbonation. Neither the booze nor the syrupy elements stick out as much as expected - it's a smooth and not particularly compelling stout. The finish is tidy in that it dries out a little and there's just a bit of overt bitterness. As it warms the sweetness threatens to get out of hand but the bitterness is enough to keep it in check. Yeah, nah.

Pours a nice black from a can, light tan head. Caramel and vanilla aroma, similar flavor, big and thick, bit of an alcohol burn. Good beer.
