So good it’s almost wrong. Dark ruby in color and brewed with seven varieties of imported malts. Complex in finish, with hints of smoke and peat, paired with a malty richness and a right hook of hop power to give it the bad attitude that a beer named Dirty Bastard has to live up to. Ain’t for the wee lads.

Bottle from Svijet Piva. Shared with the Croat & Slovak crews. Yay! Poured a dark amber-red body with an off white head. Malty aroma, honey, alcohol, slightly sticky. Dry malty taste, not nearly as sweet as expected, slightly creamy but bitter, light herbal notes, raisins, good, but not as good as I’d expected.

Bottle from Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. I nearly always have one of these in the cellar. I never get to rate it, mind you, because its the Missus’s favourite, and she always beats me to it. Except today. And the verdict is, she’s very discerning...

Bottle from Corks of Cotham. Lovely mahogany colour with a decent, beige head and touch of carbonation. Big toastiness, liquorice, blood orange, a hint of chocolate and some hops in the finish. Very good.

6-pack from the LCBO. Pours a dark brown copper with deep amber colour highlights. Big frothy yellow-beige cap with good retention and some creamy foam lace. Aromas of sweet malts (caramel, butterscotch) with heavy fruits (plums, dates) and some burnt sugars. Thankfully, the taste is not as sweet. Yes, the dark fruits are there, but milder with the malts, but some decent bitterness from the hops come in and adds some dryness to the finish. This makes this an interesting Scotch Ale, but not one I would seek again.

Bottle at Piccadilly, Bod. Pours a cloudy dark nut brown colour with a small, light beige head. Sweet aroma of caramel, chocolate, oak and brown sugar. The flavour is more malty with tones of alcohol, nuts, licorice and dry hops in the end. Has a silky and rich mouth feel, and a light to medium bitterness. A rich and sweet scotch ale, and probably nice with hearty dishes.
