Beginning as a saison and finishing as something more enigmatic, Yuzu combines Japanese citrus and Belgian yeast, with restrained hopping to create a light, lively beer accentuated by mild tartness and minerality. Yuzu is a tremendously aromatic fruit: you’ll smell the beer being poured from across the room. The combination of fruit and saison characteristics creates a dramatic nose of freshly-peeled clementines, all pith and bright orange. The acidity helps smooth and hone the minerality that gives the simple beer complexity, and allows for a crisp but memorable finish

Keg at 73 Enid Street, 06/12/19. Clear golden orange with a decent off white cap. Nose is yuzu zest, citric rinds, spruce, grass. Taste comprises lemon sherbets, yuzu, grass, light weed, mandarin, toasted malts, mellow yeast esters. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with juicy citric laden hop bitterness. Not bad.

8th December 2019 Can. Light haze on this gold beer, good white head. Terrific yuzu nose, tangerine, mandarin and lime. Palate is light and has a reasonable fine minerally crispness. Light malts. For me the saison yeast gets in the way here but I ain't a big fan of Saisons. It just unnecessarily masks the wonderful yuzu flavours that are not quite as intense as the nose. Light finish. Love the yuzu but a saison is not the best delivery mechanism.

Proper saison but with tons of yuzu. Great experience to try once, but I'm glad it's not a pint.

355mL can, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out bright citrus upfront, with some orange zest, and rustic saison yeast. Flavour is not as invigorating, with muted citrus, some orange zest, and spicy saison yeast. Has a rather seltzery character. Kinda meh.

A bit of haze, amber, but not much head. On the nose, quite a bit of artificial yuzu, and a slightly biscuity malt character. There's a bit of yuzu on the palate, and it's clashing with the biscuity malts, and maybe too much bitterness as well. The balance isn't quite right here.

Can from the brewery. Nice yuzu nose, crackery malt, light spice from the yeast. Hazy deep orange with a low head. Flavor is yuzu juice and peel, crackers, spice. Nice rich fruit quickly dries out, leaving a peppery, prickly finish that is a bit gin-like. Really subtle, lovely use of yuzu in a time when everyone seems to overdo it. Classy, and super refreshing.

Got in a BIF from Coronaeus. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 1/18/2019. Pours moderately hazy medium golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy/tart/tangy yuzu, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, citrus peel/zest, peach, pear, melon, red apple, peppercorn, pine, light banana/clove, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light toast, herbal, floral, wood, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of yuzu, fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy/tart/tangy yuzu, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, citrus peel/zest, peach, pear, melon, red apple, peppercorn, pine, light banana/clove, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light toast, herbal, floral, wood, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness; pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy bitterness; and light fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy yuzu, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, citrus peel/zest, peach, pear, melon, red apple, peppercorn, pine, light banana/clove, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light toast, herbal, floral, wood, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of yuzu, fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and pale/wheat flavors; with an awesome malt/bitter/spiciness, and tart/tangy fruit balance; and no puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness, tart/tangy fruit, and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, bready/grainy/sticky. fairly tangy, and lightly acidic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.1%. Overall this is an awesome fruited Belgian saison. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of yuzu, fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and pale/wheat flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/spicy/tart/tangy/drying finish. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Awesome balance of super vibrant yuzu fruit, fruity/spicy saison yeast complexity, earthy hops, and pale/wheat malts. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. Highly impressive, perfectly balanced between fruit/yeast character.
