Hitachino Nests most popular beer is their White Ale, so it was a natural starting point for this collaboration. We opted to add hops (as we are known to do) and made a white IPA based on the flavor profile of the White Beer. Kiuchi suggested incorporating the use of yuzu (a small Asian citrus fruit) into the brew, and we found the bright lime-like tartness perfectly accentuated the flavors of hops and the spicy notes of the classic witbier yeast.

Clear pale gold with an inch of fluffy white head. Aroma of yuzu, lemon, wheat crackers. Nice but plain. 7- Very sweet with loads of citrus, some slight herbal and peppery notes. No snap to the end makes it dull. And how is it 7% ABV?

Crisp golden coloured body with a thinnish pure white head, only a centimetre tall that dies down immediately. Aroma of very crisp lemons, wheat, yeast, citrus and quite pungent/bitter hop notes of cleanser and flowers/jasmine/tea. Light to Medium-bodied; Sharp hop flavour up front that continues in the grassy/perfumey/floral bite with a nice bitterness along with a big dose of wheat and smooth grain in the immediate flavour afterwards. Aftertaste shows a nice smooth and lightly bitter flavour that dominates with citrus, light fruits, some grasses and dry hay notes and ends with a little sweetness. Overall, a nice dry and grassy beer with a good amount of citrus, hops and complexity throughout to make this a more herbal/grassy IPA with a good deal of wheat and very smooth characteristics. Nicely done and well worth trying to find, even if it is just this single bottle from the pack. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle as part of the full twelve pack, purchased from Whole Foods in Fair Lakes (Fairfax), Virginia on 12-August-2017 for US$25,99/twelve pack, sampled at home in Washington on 07-October-2017.

Sample during the "Collaboration Beers On Deck 2!" event on 08/13/2017. Hazy pale yellow-gold color with a medium white head that evaporates steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing. Aroma of citrus, yeast, hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of citrusy hops, peppery yeast and malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a fruit and hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

Tap @ Keyaki Beer Festival Autumn 2017. Pours golden-whitish, sticky white foam. Aroma has witbier funk, orange juice, quite clear Kiuchi house flavour profile there. Nice yuzu spice and bitterness come out in taste, hoppier than usual white ale - but has kept the juiciness and overall character. Good one, was enjoying this a lot.

Part of the sampler from bottle to pint glass. Clear pale yellow with full white head. Fruity throughout and a nice addition to the sampler pack.

12oz bottle pours with a clear gold body that supports a dirty white head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet pear flavored cotton candy, sugary malts, a thin banana note and then a mild tropical fruity hop sensation. The taste delivers smooth sweet malts and vaguely pear to apple like fruity sweetness. Toward the finish honey drizzled tart apple meets up with a mild juicy tropical fruitiness. Not bad. Too sweet though.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Aroma is citrus forward with quite a bit of bright yuzu character. Light grain notes. Light citrus and resin hop profile hiding behind the yuzu. Pours a fairly clear, golden color with a large, pillowy, white head that exhibits solid retention as it slowly recedes into itself. Rather high amount of lacing and small legs. Flavor has a faint acidity and medium light sweetness with a dry finish. Moderate yuzu notes with some light citrus, pine and resin hop notes. Moderate bitterness and a hint of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low, but present alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer but its more like a random white beer with yuzu than an IPA. The hop profile is completely overshadowed and the beer is not that bitter.
