Very dark brown beer with weak and beige head. Aroma is weird, roasted, malts, some sweetness and unpleasant vegetables. Flavour is better than aroma, some roastiness, sweetness and spiciness, but again vegetabless can be found in the end. Balanced and nice to drink. Weird, unpure beer; I don’t try this again.

A dark clear brown ale with a thin moka head. A nice pleasant aroma of earthy ground cherries, volatile acids, veering on Duchesse de Bourgogne. In mouth, a bit lighter than expected with faint sweet malt, a bit of sourness, but overall a bit dull, lacks the intensity of Belgian Flemish sours. Bieropholie, BB April 2009.

33cl bottle; Murky brown colour with a huge but loose beige foamy head. Dusty and sourish toast-malty aroma with a tinge of caramel and dark berries. Sourish and minimal sweet flavour, medium bodied with a lively carbonated mouthfeel. A bit slim toast-malty and slightly berry-fruity taste; sourish and slightly bitter finish with fruity and roasty notes. Okay, but not that great. 16.XI.08

Bottle. Deep amber coloured, hazy, big fluffy to rocky head, rather quickly vanishing. A light acidity in the sweetish-fruity-vinous nose. Light to moderate sweetish flavour. Light roasted flavours in the sweet-bitter and fruity finish. Quite O.K. ............

Bottle from La Cave à Bulles, Paris
Bright brown color with red hue, too much carbonation, producing initially a big head, but reducing faster than the Étoile du Nord. Some aroma of caramel, yeast, chocolate. Good body, quite round mouthfeel, with a strong caramel flavor and some chocolate too; medium-low bitterness. Well brewed.

Bottle: Poured a clear black color ale with a big foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma consists of sour notes with the typical Thiriez yeast. Taste is also dominated by some sour notes with a light roasted malt backbone. This is a really weird mix, i.e. a dry stout mix with Flander red, and I am not sure if this is really working. Average body with OK carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting but not sure I would buy this consistently if it was available around the corner.

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with a fizzy light tan head. Ginger spiced aroma, has another spice I cannot pinpoint, but it smoothens the ginger with a liqourice like note. Flavour is spiced with a mix of ginger and liqourice. Light acidic to citric touch in the finish, not sure if this is a mild infection or intentional. But overall a unique and nice experience.

Bottle from Utobeer. Opaque dark brown with hints of red, the head was tight and tan coloured. Aromas of licorice, prunes, sweet malts and spice. The flavour had plenty of caramel, dark fruit and chocolate, with a smoky tobacco kick in the finish. Excellent.
