Pours a dark brown with some dark cascading head. Aroma & flavor are heady, bourbon mixed with spices. Pumpkin ale holds it's own very well

GABF 2014. No carbonation or head. Very sweet, and also a prominent flavor of sweet rum, with some spices, which are mostly overwhelmed by the alcohol and sugar. Still, a good beer.

On tap at Tapwerks. Pours pitch black with a creamy brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma combines dark grains, light roast, pumpkin spice, bourbon and a hint of booziness. Flavor starts with sweet dark grains, toffee and pumpkin spice and has a growing booziness and a vanilla bourbon note. A bit much.

12 oz bottle, Batch No. 1, 17.22% ABV. Aroma consists of pumpkin, vanilla, coconut, caramel, raisins, nutmeg, clove. Pours muddy brown with a dissipating beige head; laces a little. Tastes a lot like a boozy pumpkin raisin bread. Mouthfeel is oily, carbonation soft, body full. This is pumpkin beer to the nth power. Crazy.

12oz bottle I picked up at Westover Market. I think it cost $18. Woof. Pours a nearly opaque, deep brown, mahogany, with some creamy, beige head. Nose reminded me so much of African Chai, big ginger, really heavy cardamom, nutmeg, almost a little coconut milk, think big sweet Thai curry or Chai. No real indication in the nose of how much booze is to come. The moment it hits the tongue, you know you are drinking something heavy. The slick, oily, booziness is first and very much foremost. Other flavors begin to develop, some molasses, lots of turbinado sugar, raw cane sugar, woody notes, a little liquid smoke, almost a bit of Worcestershire sauce, some root vegetables lurking in the back. Finishes a touch hot with plenty of sweetness and spice. Really wild, but fairly drinkable and a lot more complexity happening than you first think.

Bottle from Bine & Vine. Pours dark brown with a small creamy tan head. Aroma that seemed chocolate, but instantly morphed into pumpkin pie spices. Very light bourbon in the nose. Overall nose effect is quite pleasing. Med body or better. There’s some heat burn, there’s some bourbon/vanilla, there’s some dark toasty malt, and there’s definitely pie spices. And wood. A sippy sort of thing which has a lot of complex flavors. Quite tasty!

From a 12 oz bottle shared at Ryan’s. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of bourbon. Flavors of chocolate, bourbon and some pumpkin spices. Very boozy finish. Wow. This is what I want to drink while handing out treats to little trick or treaters.

12 oz bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Batch #1 bottled on 9/12/2014, 17.22% ABV. Black with a finger and a half of light tan head. Aromas of pumpkin, vegetal notes, bourbon. Tastes of pumpkin, spices, caramel, bourbon, bits of chocolate. Medium body with a dry and warm finish. Low carbonation. Bourbon comes out more as it warms. A sipper for sure.
