A big bastard of an award winning brew. Exceptionally smooth with rich maltiness and a touch of smoky peat character.

Draft at the Seattle Taproom at SeaTac airport. Nose is vanilla caramels, honey, and a hint of floral. Hazy amber brown with a small beige head. Flavor is lightly sweet and malty with only the slightest hint of bitter. Awesome to find something this tasty at an airport.

Aromas are fairly traditional for a Scotch ale dark malt a hint of roast barest hint of peat a little toffee and molasses. Flavors are like nose with a bit of metallic peat is hard to find and sweet dominates. Body is okay with a bit of chalk okay carbonation. Finishes all right.

Keg tap at the Junkyard, Nottingham. Light brown and quite translucent with a film of khaki head. Toast, molasses, hazelnut in the aroma. Taste is sweet, very nutty, slightly smoky, with a gentle leafy hop bitterness providing some dryness to the finish. More hazelnut and touches of prune and coffee in the aftertaste. Great example of the style.

Bomber from Albertson's. Aroma is caramel, light peat, apple, gun metal, bread crust. Pours dark brown with a medium tan head with decent retention. Taste is sweet, lightly tart, finishing a touch bitter. All aroma descriptors in flavor. Alcohol is noticeable. A little below average for style, at least for me.

Bottle from Safeway. Dark brown, small foamy beige head. Earthy aroma, peat, smoke. Taste follows with deeper peaty flavors, mild sweetness, malty flavors, finished by a drying bitter bite. Hints of chocolate too. Nice feel and weight. Smooth.

Tons of caramel and sweet malt here. Pours dark brown with ok head. Syrupy and sweet. Doesn’t come together well, a bit of a sweet mess. Tap at Seattle Taproom. Had this in a can more recently and came together better. Tobacco and lemonbalm. prune. Easy drinking. Soft citrus pour. Some light astringency in finish but well integrated. Definitely a better beer than I had before. Or I'm a better beer drinker. Or something.

Pours a deep brown with a very minimal light beige head. Lots of malt along with some caramel, tootsie roll and booze on the nose. Taste is fairly similar, but something weird is going on on the finish. The nose is great, but the taste doesn’t live up to it. Light peat on the palate as well as a slightly boozy finish that lingers.

Medium dark red with a beige head. Smoke right up front with a big chunk of caramel malt in the back. The smoke kind if kills most the other flavors. If you like em smokey this is for you.
