2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.
For beer folks, Chico, CA, and New Glarus, WI, are must-see capitals on the U.S. brewing map, but getting between the two is no simple feat. There and Back is named for the planes, trains, and zeal needed to connect them. This classic English-style Bitter is a complex yet easy-drinking mix of toasty malt and a fruity, herbal hop flavor.
New Glarus is fiercely loyal to its home state, growing to one of the largest breweries in the U.S. without selling a single drop outside of the borders of Wisconsin. With those local tastes in mind, New Glarus has perfected traditional German styles and invented masterful versions of complex and intense fruit beers featuring Wisconsin-grown ingredients.

From a 2014 bottle. Pours a clear mahogany with a slight off white head. Aromas are of caramel and toffee. Flavors are sweet toffee and scant hop bitterness after 4 years.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy orange-caramel color with a few tiny floaters and a large fluffy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was bitter and biscuity with a bit of caramel and fruity hops. The flavor was bitter and somewhat tart with notes of toffee, biscuit, a hint of wood and tobacco. Long finish. Medium body. Ok.

(Bottle, 0.355 l, at laiti’s, 20150613) The beer poured amber and almost clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma had lots of toffee and strongly malts. Palate was medium bodied with rather high carbonation. Flavours were malts, frutiness, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and bitter. This was no Bitter, instead it was more like a sweet Amber ale.

Tap at Sidedoor. Filtered orange body. Thinnish off-white head. Pretty true to style. Sweet English malts, toffee, amber malt. A little leaning into the malt, not much hop balance...surprising for Sierra...more of a NG beer. SOme quality malts, but overall kind of boring, standard.

355ml bottle, thanks jookos! Deep amber, thick white head. Nice biscuity, malty aroma, some caramel. Flavor has crackers, malt, English hops, fudgy sweetness, some plummy notes. Long finish. Not bad.

Bottle at home in Salisbury. Pours mostly clear orange-gold with a foamy off-white head. Lots of tropical fruits in the nose - interestingly - with notes of melon, some berries, papaya and mandarin orange. Light-medium sweet flavor with more juicy fruit character, citrus, pale bread, slight piney bitterness. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Moderately sweet on the finish with more juicy citrus and other fruits, pale bread, tropical stuff, orange, tangerine, faint bubblegum, some pale crackers. Very tasty but nothing like an English bitter.

tap - This brew has a rich caramel aroma with notes of citrus. It tastes of sweet caramel malt and moderately bitter hops with a subtle citrus character. It’s medium bodied, soft on the palate, and easy drinking. Very good.
