Fire in the Ham is our take on an intensely smokey lager similar to those found in Bamberg, Germany. Most of this brew's malt was dried over flaming beechwood, which ingrains unique smoky flavors. Aromas of campfires, smoked ham, and bacon dominate a soft malt and hop backbone.

Not my thing apparently. Smells and tastes like smoked gouda, and like smoked gouda, is good at first, but not for very long.

This was on tap at Growler Garage.
This was poured into a tulip (eh, don’t ask me why the place can’t pour lagers into lager glasses, whatever, here’s the rest).
The appearance was a slight bronzed yellow color with a bar pour’s kind of slim white head that dissipated pretty quickly.
The smell had bacon, a light layer of smokiness, subtle ham and a light little bit of breadiness underneath.
The taste was basically the same: roasty, smoky with a subtle sweet underneath. The aftertaste was moderately smoky with the breadiness balancing in it. There’s a slight quick smoky finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a subtle crisp to mostly smokey ham to bacon feel hitting my tongue. Barely any bitterness, but understandable and actually really nice to me.
Overall, I’d say this was a nice rauchbier or maybe \"smoked\" beer. I’d have again for me at least.

Tap at the brewery. It pours clear yellow with a medium white head. The nose is fresh, rich smoked malt, very meaty and bread. The taste is crisp, rich smoke, smooth, creaminess, bread, smoked cheddar and cracker with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Pretty alright smoked lager.

Taster from Tap at the brewery. Clear, bright golden color. Nose of smoked ham, brown sugar added and baked. Very smoky flavor, ham, lightly malty, great balance. A well done version of a pale and smoky beer where the smoke flavors can stand out.

Bottle from Sav Mor Liquors, drunk 4/5/14 Glassy, clear, soft-rosy/orange colored body is topped by a beige head that recedes slowly to cover. Caramel mixes with smoke in the nose, rather sweet and bacony, with lots of black pepper, soft vanilla notes and a bit of raisiny-like sweetness. The smoke isn’t dominant here. Didn’t think it really faded that fast, but this certainly is to the contrary. I think this is what, 9 or 10 months old? No signs of oxidation, just lots of maltiness. The flavor is more of the same, somewhat tired body is low on carbonation, with some sugary, bordering syrupy caramel notes more than balancing the light smoke phenols. No flaws or anything, just without the big smokiness, it’s a touch too sweet and I’m surprised how little carbonation is left. Will be curious to try an aged bottle of Smoked Marzen and see what happens. 7/3/7/3/13 Brewery draught, 9/10/24. Clear amber-bronze. Small head. Ample smoke, bread, crisp yeast and light earth/wood. Far from sweet, with a balanced but still ample smoke. Crisp, dry, lightly bready finish. Delicious and well-done with an excellent balance. I think I see where I was coming from with the sweetness, but this is much ameliorated. 8/4/8/4/16

It pours a hazy straw gold with a couple of inches of foam, some awesome lacing left behind as the foam shrinks slowly.
It smells like a lovely breakfast minus the eggs; smoked ham, big on bacon aromas, it has my attention 100%.
Tastes just like what I smelled. Big bacon, ham, yeah, the smoke IS intense and is not for the timid but I’ve never been accused of being timid. It comes in a 16.9 oz bottle and I’m sure, after I’m finished, I would not yearn for another but that’s no slant on the brew at all. Sometimes one and done works.
Medium bodied with perfect carbonation.
This beer was, as I have finished, a real treat for me. Thanks again, Kevin!

500mL bottle, sent from Gregg657 (thanks a lot, Pete), pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Nose brings out lots smoke, but not of the ashtray kind, but lighter. Flavour is similar, with notes of smoke and to an lesser degree, corn. The smoke is very prominent, drowning out everything else that might be there otherwise. Decent stuff - a drinkable not-too-overpowering smoked lager.

Bottle courtesy of AirForceHops. Honey smoked ham aroma. Hazy yellow gold with a moderate white head. Smoky hardwood and biscuity malt flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation. Very nice representation of a Bamberg smoked beer.
