Keg at Gubi Gabu - Kinosakionsen. Pours deep brown with a frothy, tan head. The nose holds burnt malts, toasted brown bread, ashy cocoa. Light-medium sweet flavour with some lactose motets, burnt toast, woody dryness, more ash, bitter chocolate, earth. Light bodied with average carbonation. Alright balance in the finish, somewhat restrained, more drying ash, burnt wood, cocoa. Not bad, though somewhat basic.

330mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is highly smoky, with tons of char and campfire. Flavour brings out tons of smoke upfront, like the smoke produced when BBQ'ing hot dogs. Dry, smoky and very simple. Weak stuff. Inoffensive, but no good.

450 yen Bottle, burnt coffee, licorice, umami, grape & chocolate in the aroma. The taste is good, chocolate with some roast coffee notes. The body is a bit thin & I feel it is somewhat rough around the edges. Overall though, a nice enough stout, it pairs nicely with vanilla ice cream. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from the brewery, thanks to Mike. Roasty, umami nose, chocolate, coffee, nuts, a touch of soy and some grape as well. A bit salty as well. Quite rich. Black with lace. Nicely malty and roasted. Coffee, chocolate, soy, nuts. Full-flavored, good full body, right amount of sweetness. Dry finish. Well done stout.
