Coppery brown with rich, malty character-this perfectly brewed amber ale gets its good looks from the dark-roasted crystal malt that we import from England. To give it some Western flair, it is moderately hopped with hops straight from the Yakima Valley in Washington. ABV 5.7% Bitterness 25 IBU. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

Pours a clear dark amber color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes quickly. Spotty lacing. Caramel malt aroma with mild hops in the background. Light body with flavors of bready malt and light hops. The finish is sweet with a short malty aftertaste. Slightly below average overall.

Costco: Pours a reddish brown with an ok looking beige head. Aroma of caramel and toffee malts. Taste is mostly malty with some citrusy hops in the background. Sessionable, cheap, and not too bad. Obviously, this isn’t the most interesting beer in the world, but it gets the job done.

Bouteille @ OTH.

12 oz. bottle. Poured a amber color, medium sized white head. Aroma was toasted malts, malty caramel. Flavor is largely the same, malty, caramel. This one was decent, though relatively plain.

From a case picked up at the Clearwater Costco. Pours clear deep copper with nice tan head. The mild aroma has some roast, earthiness, some caramel malts and, if I use my imagination I can maybe get nuttiness too. The taste is modest in strength and complexity as well as prickly with carbonation. I get some caramel malts and a thin layer of roastiness.

12 oz bottle into shaker. Peppery, caramel malt aroma. Pours copper amber with little head and just decent lacework. Taste is sweet, finishes bitter. Medium carbonation. I wanted to compare this with Kirkland’s German Lager because that beer tasted just like an amber ale to me. I was right. These two beers taste extremely similar with just a few subtle differences. Very mediocre.

Bottle from Costco! Dark copper color with a decent off-white head. Nice roast caramel aroma. Medium body with lightly frothy carbonation. Flavor is caramel with mild spiciness. Mildly bitter. Those Yakima hops are working overtime to help out this sucker. Worth drinking.
