Coppery brown with rich, malty character-this perfectly brewed amber ale gets its good looks from the dark-roasted crystal malt that we import from England. To give it some Western flair, it is moderately hopped with hops straight from the Yakima Valley in Washington. ABV 5.7% Bitterness 25 IBU. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

Smooth easy drinking bottle of extremely boring amber ale. Not awful but nothing to remember her bay.

Tea and chesnut nose. Tea colored, medium tan head. Mild nuttiness, barley. Fairly clean despite this being an old bottle. Not bad.

Drank from the bottle while burning brush at night. Some hop bitterness caramel, dry finish. A decent amber.

Bottle. Light amber color with very small off-white head, caramel aroma, fizzy, very little hops taste, almost tasteless. Finishes abruptly with no palate at all. I am guessing that this could be a perfect blind tasting specimen, no one could find out what it was!

Bottle - Overall a dissapointing beer that is only barely better than the huge macro’s. I would have expected some malt profile, but very tasteless. Not really worth the work to describe and I would just avoid.

Bottle. Clear amber with an inch of off-white head. Aroma of caramel, over-ripe plums, mild cleaning products. Sweet with lots of caramel - maybe not as sweet as expected - plums and nuts, citrus notes that don’t sit well. A bit of a mess.

Bottle thanks to billshmeinke. Pours with a hazed copper hue with a small, fading off-white head. Aromas are sweet, nutty, caramel, mild oxidation. Flavors are nutty, caramel, grainy, with a mild floral hop character. Lively bubbles, thin. I think the bottle might be kind of hold.

Bottle from a case bought at the new Kyoto Costco. Cheapest ales in Japan! Fruit and caramel nose, some butterscotch and minerals too. Too metallic, actually. Seems very sweet and candy-like, think of the caramel toffee tht gets stuck in my teeth. Deep reddish amber color, really more brown, with a low, fine head. Sweet, candy caramel, iron, and earth flavor. Lights hops, but they give a dirty aspect and a decently bitter finish. A bit too candy-like. Decently rich and smooth. No butter in the flavor. Decent, though rather innocuous. Definitely worth the price in Japan, where it is about a dollar less per bottle than Asahi. In America, I wouldn’t bother.
