Clear dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet, dried fruit, hard roasted malt and spicy. Flavor is rather sweet and moderate bitter. Smooth, soft and warming alcohol in the finish. 261110

750 ml bottle. Amber with a big, creamy beige head. Aroma of malt and spices, but slightly lighter than previous versions. Flavor is also a bit milder, malt, caramel, and spices β specially cinnamon and nutmeg. Quite sweet and a bit modest maybe.

750 c&c from Bottle Barn. Pours really dark brown with a foamy 3 finger tan head. Aroma is xmasy - cinnamon, nutmeg, with some dark fruit and chocolate. Med body. Flavor is roast dark malt with musty fruit cake - and the spices and chocolate. Thereβs sweetness, but there seems to be enough hop to set that off. Certainly a different and complex item.

(Bottle, 0.75 l) The beer poured dark reddish brown. Its head was medium sized and light brown. Aroma had malts, liquorice, chocolate, citricness and alcohol. Palate was full bodied warming, and bit dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, roastedness, caramell, chocolate, mild citricness, sweetness, orange, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, roasty and bitter. Alcohol was too much present but otherwise the beer was quite nice. Especially I liked that the roasty flavours werenβt drowned by the spices.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes leaving spotted sheets to coat surface. Chocolate and juniper aromas. Medium bodied with spicy juniper and toasted chocolate upfront. Turning dusty and woody in the dry, lasting herbal finish. Alcohol is well hidden.

15cl glass at the Essen Xmas Beer festival last weekend. Dark colour. Probably the best beer of the festival with the 2009 version too of course

Bottled. Very dark brown, rich creamy head. Thick and mega-sweet with caramel, syrup and spices. Cushiony soft with somealcohol warmth, and mouthfilling toffee/spice flavours. Enjoyabkle, but onlyin small amounts due to the intense sweetness.

Fast gone rim of cream-coloured foam, near-black beer. Spiced, as with holly and fir, dark, but fine aromalike malts. Liquorice, mild mocha, and a bit of ashes, but the liquoriceflavour, fortified by both the alcohol and the other spices is way too prominent. In the finish, notes of cypress and lavender. Thick, sleazy, filthily rich feel. Rich, but a bit too liquorice-sweet.

On keg at Cask & Kitchen, London. Pours dark ruby with thin beige head, low carbonation, but was a bit too cold than I would have liked. Nose; christmas pudding; dark fruits and spices. Taste; suprisingly thin for 10%, caramel, cinnamon, ginger, dark fruits, dark chocolate, smooth and drinkable. Glad to have had the chance to taste this on tap!
