A variation of our previous red/golden rye ales. Brewed in collaboration with Cervesa Marina, Catalonia (honorable mention to Gazza from Steel City). We used Pale, CaraRed, Munich, 30% rye malts, Carafa Special III and local rice that the brothers brought over in their hand luggage. Hopped in kettle with Herkules, Centennial, Kohatu and Galaxy, Centennial & Simcoe in fv.

Cask at Brew Wharf. Red brown colour, very small gold bubbly head. Aroma is fairly regular pale ale smell. Bit of citrus, maybe something a bit dark there but only a hint. Taste is a touch chocolatey, roasty malt, bit of creaminess and a touch of hops. Later sips are more grainy. Very soft in the mouth. Taste is more interesting than the smell definitely. Further down the hops dominate. --- Beer merged from original tick of (collab with) Marina Black Cat RyePA on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:06 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 23 Nov 2012) Dark brown colour with brief head. Roasted, malty nose with dark bread, ryvita, pine needles and resin. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark rye bread, pine needles, resin and a solid piney bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Nice one.

At the Brewpub. Clear but very dark brown beer. Tidy pale tan head. Palate is light and semi dry with moderate carbonation. The dark malt starts with a light touch but develop a roasty bitterness punch. Tangy orange fruit in the mid. Sweet and bitter pine in the finish with traces of reb berry fruits and rye spice and pinch of ash. Bitter linger. Interesting beer.

Cask at White Horse Parsons Green, Old Ale Festival - 23/11/12. Mid black with a thin tan head which dissipates fairly quickly. Nose is hops, pine, light chocolate, dark malt, tropical fruit notes. Tastes of dusty dark cocoa, bitter pine, hops, light bread, mineral tones. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, bitter finish. Great black IPA.

Light sweet flavor with lots of dirty pine, grass, straight dirt, grapefruit. Lots of gritty, earthy bitterness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Gritty, resinous finish with more pine, grass and grapefruit. A touch abrasive at times.

Cask at White Horse Parsons Green. It pours very dark brown with a small bubbly off-white head. The nose is wood, earth, jammy dark fruit, varnish, light spice and cheese. The taste is roasted malt, charcoal, varnish, very dry, spice and wood with a bitter finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. A bit rough around the edges and too dry for my liking.
