(Previously labeled Blackberry Lambic). Blackberry is fermented by wild yeast and aged in oak casks for nearly a year, which creates a tart, complex beer. We then add whole blackberries, grown in Indiana, giving the beer a sweet, berry aroma that blends nicely with the tang of sour beer. The beer is bottle conditioned, which adds a zesty and refreshing carbonation. Blackberry is the perfect drink to share with friends over a plate of good cheese and fresh fruit.

(Old description) In the spring of 2006, I brewed 300 gallons of top-fermented beer using wild yeast to create a Belgian-style Lambic. We conditioned the beer in oak casks and then initiated a secondary fermentation in the casks using whole fruit from Huber’s Orchard in Starlight, Indiana. You should experience a tart, almost sour taste balanced by the aromatic and richly flavorful addition of whole blackberries - perfect to share with friends, and a platter of good cheese and fresh fruit. - Caleb Staton, Head Brewer

Looks like ‘fruit on the bottom’ yogurt but just the fruit part. dark purple slurry Nose obviously has blackberry but with hints of celery and strawberries and kale. Whoa. Intensely sour. it had that fizzy sprite pour that I’m used to with upland sours. Very sour, my tongue is starting to hurt as my taste buds sort of get on fire. Another upland that totally is too sour. I should stop trying these

750mL bottle, pours an opaque ruby red / pinkish with a small off-white / pink head. Aroma brings out pungent tart blackberries, some barnyard funk, and brett. Flavour brings out loads of blackberries, to a jammy extent, with a moderate acidity, and low vinegary quality. Very blackberry-ish and jammy, while also being acidic and funky. Not my favourite of the Upland lambics, but certainly well-made. Finishes on blackberry acidity notes. Great stuff.

Bottle with thanks to Clownisseur! Count me a lover of this beer. Pours cloudy blood orange, small white head with decent lacing. Aroma is barnyard funk, fruity, blackberry, lemon. Flavor is quite sour, lemon, fruity, dry as hell, lightly funky. Medium body, light carbonation. Yummmmm.

Turbid purple - aroma of acid, cheese, dull yeast notes - flavor is much the same - dull yeast, strong acidity, bitter fruit skins - finish of fruit infused vinegar - lingering yeast and mild cheesiness - meh.

Bottle @ Matt’s house, courtesy of bushmat1. Thanks Matt! Gusher. Purple brown appearance with a light brown head. Rich, dark berry, fairly acetic, blackberry, richly sour aroma. Super rich, dark berry, very acetic, quite acidic, blackberry, rich berry flavor. Over the top like all the other Uplands.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dark blue color lambic with a large off-blue color head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of strong blackberry notes with some light funky notes and some tart notes also discernable. Taste is a mix between some tart blackberry notes with some notes funky barnyard notes and a sour finish. Body is full with limited filtration and great carbonation. This one is well balance with great notes of blackberry. This is one brewery that I never know what to expect but in this particular case it is a real winner. Easy to drink with huge amount of complexity.

Had this at Ratebeer’s Horny Devil Pittsburgh Winter Tasting 2012. Big thanks to beerman6686, Dan – this beer rocks! Aroma is a little off but quite nifty; I guess you could say it was quite old barn on the nose. Color is dark purple, looks yummy. Very thin head. Initially a very sour tsty sample. Very likeable from the start. Lovely, easy, fun and sour; everything you would want in a tart limbic. Can’t be much better as far as lambics go. A very good fruity beer without being too fru-fru-fruity. Yes an overall great beer drinken experience. BIG THANKS DAN!
