A rich dark winter ale brewed with English Malts and hops for lots of fruity festive flavour. The rich fruitiness of this beer goes beautifully with cold meats or strong English cheeses like a traditional Cheddar.

Bottle from Marks & Spencer, Manchester. Medium clear brown with an extremely thing head. Sweet malty in both aroma and taste, with some darker tasting malts involved too. Very lightly spiced.

500ml bottle: BB Sep 2017. Shared with my son on Christmas Day 2016 during our tasting session between meals. Ruby body, white head, lightly spiced and enjoyable, malt centric but not sweet. Not as ’festive’ in flavour as I expected though. Better than the two Christmas brews before it and certainly better than what followed next.

Mahogany brown colour with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have some toasted malts and hints of sweet dried fruits. A bit thin and gassy.

Deep and dark copper, with a thin, off-white, head. Rich malt and caramel aroma with some red berries and leafy hops. Flavour had bready malts, a hint of spice, more fruit and a gentle finish. Fine.

Bottle. Clear amber/brown body with a thin beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of caramel and cherries. Flavour of wood, light spices, burnt caramel and sugary tea. Thin to medium body with a light, oily texture. Soft fizz. A slow drinker.

Bottle at home picked up from Oxford Str M&S. Clear reddy / copper / brown coloured pour with a decent greyish brown coloured head. Aroma is a mix of rustic hay, liquorice, treacle, and some dried fruits, pudding. Flavour is composed of decent figgy pudding, cake, dried fruits, fruits and nuts, balanced with a little biting bark bitterness. Palate is medium sweet, moderate to low carbonation, rounded. Decent enough.
