The appearance is a dark brown colored body with a thick two fingered white foamy head that dies at a moderate pace and leaves a big foamy thick lacing gracing the sides of the glass.
The smell is sour and tart and somewhat sweet cherries, maybe some apples that seem slightly spiced.
The taste is sweet, sour and tart that seems to be all at the same time; sweet sour sticky apple cherry aftertaste, the finish is somewhat quick and sticky.
The palate sits about a medium and really doesn’t show much sessionability to it as well as it shows some decent sipping aspects to it. Carbonation is very subdued - I like it.
Overall, to me, I say this is a good Flanders Oud Bruin that I think I could have again. I did have one the other day with some sloppy joes and thought that was excellent.

On tap at Toronado. (sold as Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour) Dark red with a small head. Quite sour with vinegar, spices, red berries and some oak. The finish was sour and fairly dry. A descent one.

Bottle - Vinous, cherry and wood notes. Cloudy brown and beige big head. Sour cherry and some dark fruit notes. This soured brown is decent and well balanced, but there is something missing. Could be a bit more sour.

Backlog. Opaque ruby brown colour, creamy tan head, vanishes gradually, leaves patches lacing. Light fruity aroma, sour cherries, citrus. Medium sweet taste with sour undertones. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel, lively carbonation, mild and fresh dry finish with slight sweetness.

Pours hazy brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, cooked vegastable and some tart. Taste is medium sweet and light sour. Taste is light to medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Thanks to Kraddel / Beerlover_Ben. Fresh from draft sampled as “Monks Café Flemish Sour Red Ale” tasted next to the Grand Cru this one is less sharp, more soapy & bit sweet for sure.. Dark amber red, creamy head. Low sour cherry, oak but overall rather sweet, soapy, almost sugar, sweet dark fruit, too soapy, plain, rather weak. (3.3/5) (27.07.2013) 2003 Vintage – BBF 09/01/2006. 25 cl. bottle @ Kulminator. Pours completely flat copper pomegranate. Heavily oxidised nose, lightly metallic, touch pomegranate, light tart and malts but very oxidation rules the game. Taste is too far gone, metallic, oxidized, iron, watery, light malt, watery cherry, hint cardboard wine, very light wine and vinegar. Watery and oxidized. Didn’t survive the aging, not sure how it is young but this was not particularly enjoyable. (2.1/5)

2003 vintage at kulminator. pours dark, no foam. nice smell ! some restsugar, some sourness in it . typical FOB taste. not that special but i do like the style Rerate as monks cafe sour ale, at Gents bierfestival Nr 5 . The sweetness and sourness in this ( now fresh ) beer , totally collide . The endresult tastes like plastic . Downrating this a bit . Apparently better with 10 Y of age on it

Imported 11.2 oz bottle, labeled as Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Ale, pours dark brown with creamy beige head. Sharp sour aroma (vinegar, soy sauce). Taste is sweet (brown sugar) and tart, but surprisingly smooth, with light lingering sourness on the palate.

Bouteille 250ml.
