Translates as Divide & Conquer. This beer barrel aged for the good part of a year in a variety of peated whiskey barrels. Among others Port Charlotte and Bruichladdich. We also added the wild yeast Brettanomyces (aka brett) to the barrels to gain it's special effect to the beer.

Bottle. Black oily pour. Aroma of bretty horseblanket, chocolate, soft smoke, coffee and roasted malt. Flavor of brett, smoke, mild peat, chocolate, booze, roasted malt, subtle dry horseblanket and ash. Not at all sour and only faintly tart, this is how a brett stout should be done.

Bretted BA stout from De Molen, bottle bought at De Hopduvel. Creamy, dense, yellowish beige, stable, papery lacing head over a jet black beer, almost entirely opaque. Aroma of bitter chocolate bars, quite strong but not too obtrusive moist peat and peated whisky, walnut liqueur, coffee, wood, Cuban cigars, fig, onsetting Brett effects in the form of the classic ’horseblanket’, old books and leather, adding considerable complexity. Intense onset with a lot of dried fig and dito banana, even some raisiny sweetness, blackcurrant accent and underlying, but quite pronounced roasted barley sourishness, soft carbo, thick, viscous and oily body. A thick, syrupy, ’black’ maltiness ensues, nutty and very toasted, evolving into mouth-filling black coffee roasted bitterness with growing retronasal peat, yet feeling ’natural’ and less iodine-like than is often the case in these peated whisky barrel aged beers; ends with ongoing black chocolate and dito cofee maltiness, lots of explicit whisky-like alcohol, furniture-like woodiness, spicy hops lurking in the background and - interestingly - mild but very unmistakable leathery and old cloth-like Brett effects, which are bound to become stronger with age. I should have bought more bottles and cellar a few of them... In any case another proof of what this brilliant brewery does best, i.e. barrel ageing big, thick, boozy and extremely flavorful stouts. Another Molen masterpiece of international stature.

Bottle @ home. Opaque pitch black color, full sized brown head. Aroma is malts, peat, brett. Taste malts, heavy peat, too much bretty notes for me to like it. Not my kind of beer unfortunately. Can’t finish the bottle on my own.

Bottle at Gekke Geit. Almost black with small short lasting beige head. Lots of roast and cocoa, funky goat droppings, some bourbon vanilla, dark chocolate, hay, dirty basement funk, port wine. Quite roasted and thick with lots of farm notes. Medium sweet and bitter. Full thick body. Nice but strong in the goat notes!

Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Palate is smooth and mildly dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, light tang and a very modest dark chocolate streak. Good vibrant tangy fruity mid. Peaty smoke hangs about but blends in well. Mild band aids. Light finish. Comes together very well, one of the better impy peat affairs.
