STEENBRUGGE Wit-Blanche abbey beer is a wheat beer brewed with 40% unmalted wheat and 60% malt. It has a refreshing flavour and a fruity, lightly smoked yeast aroma combined with the subtle Bruges “gruut” blend of herbs and spices, with an emphasis on coriander and Curaçao.

Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a hazy yellow color with a medium sized foamy white head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was dryish and musty with notes of coriander, egg white, lemon and pepper. The flavor was dryish, tart and citric with undertones of dust, must and pepper. Medium finish and body. Eh.

Orange yellow color with light head. Lots of wheat and touch of spice and yeast and some fruit. It’s preety light and watery. Taste is light and dry, little earthy with wheat finish. It’s a basic belgian beer but watery. Maybe too light.

(Draught at Viisi Penniä, 20120321) The beer ppoured pale yellow and cloudy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma was mild with coriander and citricness. Palate was quite light bodied with highish carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, coriander, hops, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was fruity and bitter. A quite weak and thin wit.

Cloudy yellow color. Aroma has wheat and yeast. Flavor is less sweet than most of the style, and there is an herbal quality, presumably from the gruut. Mild and refreshing, but it still has flavor. An enjoyable beer.

Bottle @ home. Hazy pale yellow color, white head. Smell yeast and some spices or herbs, but this time -cause I generally don’t like spices and herbs- in a good way. Average decent taste. Soft carbo, low body.
