25 cL bottle, courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours hazy dark orange with a diminished white head. Aroma is oxidised yet also dark malty. Wineous and dark breadish malty with a mild spice note in the initial flavour. Light roasted note following. Mild bitter and smooth roasted malty flavoured into the finish. Smooth and delicious.

Bottled. A hazy dark amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is very sweet with strong notes of fruit, oranges and peaches, alcohol, and malt. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of over ripe fruits, caramel, alcohol, and dusty hops, leading to dry fruity, and dusty finish.

Bottle at Battersea BF 08. Belgian yeast aroma. Too over carbonated in mouth. Too sweet. It’s not terribly good (actually I wrote something far more profane in my notebook). Sickly sweet. Some hop on end. But massively over-rated

Bottled. Hazy nutbrown colour, huge beige head, and the head lives & grows in the bottle. Aroma is caramel, alcohol, malts and some slight sherryish/madeiraish notes. Flavour is yeast, caramel, fruits along with some hops and some sourness.

(Bottle 21 cl) Pours a very unclear amber golden with a gigantic and extremely lively head that finds its own way out of the bottle - and keeps on flowing, and flowing.... Plenty of sweet caramel with some alcohol presence. Quite full-bodied with sweetish caramel, overripe fruit and some yeast. Warming alcohol in the finish. Not bad - just not that thrilling. Courtesy of jbrus - thank you John. 201206

Bottle. Very peppery and very malty aroma, sweet smelling, dried fruit. Very dark reddish colour. Small, stable, big-bubbled head. Full, swelling mouthfeel. Peppery flavour, dominated by maltiness and said dried fruit. Too high carbonation and too swelling mouthfeel IMO.

Bottled, alc. 10.2%
Brewed with Westvleteren yeast. Ruby red, lots of floating yeast, good creamy brown head. Weak fruity (plums) nose - some alcohol too. Lively, carbonated mouthfeel. Shows alcohol quite well. Fruity, a bit sweet, some sugar, hops. Maybe fruityness of Westy is there but lacks its complexity. Kind of on/off beer, but I liked it, one of the best Ducth beers.

(IF I got the explanation right, the bottled beer, which I drank under the name of Pijtje, is the same as West Volen, served on draught at Wildeman a.o.) Red brown, fully hazy; thin but persistent yellowish head. Sweet-sour nose, vanilla, oakwood, brown candi sugar, mint and fruity esters. Sweet taste, slightly sourish. Very fruity (banana, overripe plums, almonds,...) A certain flavour of sour milk. And bay leaf/laurel. A definite burning sensation; both alcohol, acids and ? fruit?. very well-bodied. It's quite OK, appropriately fruity and reasonably complex. But it ain't just anywhere in the Westvleteren league - from where the yeast hails.
