This Red Ale (also known as Amber Ale) has a good malt presence and a prominent hop profile. Brewed to showcase English hops and to support English hop growers. Fruity, toffee and caramel aroma and palate with an orange peel bitterness to balance the sweet malt flavours from the Pale Ale, Vienna, Münich and Cara malts (with a little black malt). Hop variety is Admiral. Great with Roast Duck.

Cask at the William Webb Ellis, Twickers, 29/03/14, JDW Spring 2014 Fest Beer #4. Clear golden with a moderately appointed off white covering. Nose is light berry fruit, straw, toasty notes. Taste comprises biscuit malt, red berry pangs, light toffee notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Distinctly whelming stuff!

Cask @ Moon Under Water, MK. Chestnut, clear and thin. Smells of sulphur with a bit of forest fruit. Taste is a sulphurous bitter with a hint of sweetness. Aftertaste is vile. Adnams got this wrong. A pretty poor beer.

Cask at the Crosse keys Jdw. Brown copper colour with lasting off white head. Aroma is twiggy malts some low fruits, nutty malt. Flavour is stale malts, chalky carbonic acid. Twiggy earthy bitterness. Average palate, medium sweet with chalky mineral. Disappointing.

Wetherspoon Beer Festival. Deeper amber coloured with a thin head. Has a malt-hop character but nothing to shout about in either aspect.

Cask at Hamilton Hall, JDW, London. Pours clear, vibrant copper with a fine, beige cream head. Burnt leaves in the nose, hints of berries. Lightbsweet flavor with odd herbs like oregano and basil, along with leafy bitterness and dried berries. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Poor finish, more dried green herbs, burnt leaves, earth, light burnt sugars. The bitterness is pretty abrasive in the aftertaste. An odd beer, and not very good. (2.6)

Tried this one again and it was much better. Pleasant toasted grains, bread, hints of pine. Nice balance. Good one. (3.5)
