Vandervelden 135 Oude Geuze is a blend of 1-year-old lambic aged on foeders that were previously used for mainly red Brunello di Montalcino Tuscany wine and of 3-year-old lambic on an old Oud Beersel foeder.

Bottled (Systembolaget Umeå). Slightly hazy golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is dry wood, some sourness, mild not-too-sweet fruity notes along with some funk. Flavour is fruits, some dry wood, sourness, mild acidic notes as well as some mild yeast. Lovely dry and sour, yet very refreshing.

Bottle. Hazy golden color, with a pretty white head, disappearing some seconds later. Aroma is lemon, leather, vinous, some barrel notes. Taste is delicate compared to most of geuze, but still with the usual complexity, still detectable all the lemon, leather notes, unripe berries, flowery too. One of the easiest to drink I tried, highly enjoyable at any time.

(375ml bottle from SB c/o Johan, thanks!) Hazy deep gold pour with basically no head. Midweight geuze with nice notes of red wine grapes over tart apple with light lemon, good expression of wood, moderate barnyard funk, some sweetness from the malt, touch of nutty oxidation quality, hint of fruit vinegar, really all about the nice barrel quality though...finishes dry with more lingering grape skins, wood and funk. Medium bodied, oily, nice smooth soft carb. I thought 137 would have more barrel depth but the younger expression of the Brunello barrels here gave more wine in my opinion.

Bottle at home. Now four year old. Pours a slightly hazy amber colour with an off-white head that fades fast. Aroma of red grapes, oak, green apples, horse and apple cider vinegar. Flavour of oak, grape skin, citric acid, grass, apple cider vinegar and barnyard. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body and a light bitterness. Nice and rich aroma, so I expected more from the flavour. Solid enough and is a little different from a classic gueuze.

Bottle. Grote Dorst online shop. Light haze on a glowing gold. Thin and dense, lasting, white head. Nose has fruity red wine. Fusty oak. Curds. Taste is lightly tart, with a wonderful juicy red wine character. Smooth on the palate. Clean and crisp. Soft and foamy carbonation. More red wine juiciness to finish. Lovely stuff.

Aroma svette, brød, malt, Utseende poff og røyk under åpning, Orange/gul med beskjedent offwhite skum som ble borte. Smak stor bolle med sur frukt, sure grønne epler. Et godt surøl med frisk syrlig munnfølelse, sjampanjefølelse. Feb -18

Bottle from Cornelius. Pours just-clear golden with a thin white head. Aromas of light funk and wood, lemon sharp and light acetic, sherbet. Taste is sharp sour, musty, dusty, in a good way. Tangy lemon finish.

Wow coz za potega aromatow po wystrzelenia korka to uniosl sie w kuchni taki aromat niczym wewnatrz wielkiej beczki Foeder u Franka Boom'a, dzikie drozdze szalaly nie tylko w kuchni...a ja razem z nimi, coz za zapach, nie sposob opisac, powoli od wygladu zaczne, jest spora piana srednio trwala, metne po calosci barwa suszonej moreli. W smaku kwasne winogrona utopione w occie jablkowym, dalej lepka gruszka z agrestem, do tego skorzane, pewna potliwosc, lekka slonosc, doskonale wytrawne zero slodyczy, zero kompromisow i zero sciemy i az 137 lat tradycji. Tradycyjna Specjalnosc gwarantowana, zreszta tym certyfikatem kazdy Lambick Oude Guze niemal posiada. Do piersi kurczaka lub salatki z tunczykiem wspanialy duet. polecam

Bottle with the RateBeer München Tasting group at Hopdog, Munich Thurs' 23rd July 2020, big thanks to Stefan for bringing this beer along. I guess that Stefan is right, it's extremely good, softer, woodiness, much more mellow than expected, funky yes, fruity yes but huge drinkability.
