All New Englanders have a special place in their hearts for the old, dilapidated covered bridge of their youth. Maybe you rumbled over one every day riding shotgun in the family’s rusted-out pickup truck, or maybe one stands out from some rustic vacation largely long-since forgotten. No matter the case, they remain a symbol of nostalgia and youthful exuberance, a figurative bridge to another time.

For the traditionalist, the sentimental at heart, we offer Robust Porter, our take on a style of beer that, like these bridges, has remained impervious to trends, stalwart in the face of change. One gulp and you’ll be teleported to a simpler time. To that, all we can say is, Cheers

Single bottle, $1.60 at Binny’s. Pours deep black, initially with a big spongy head that falls in on itself in a hurry. Big coffee bean and chocolate smell, with notes of licorice as well. Nice. Taste is indeed robust. Feels at first like it should be big on alcohol, but then it’s just an illusion. Then I realize it’s another big coffee-roast malty beer, with prickly bubbles delivering a slightly American hop profile. And before I know it, it’s gone. Extra credit for the Jones Soda style label.

bottle - Pours black with a lingering tan head. The aroma is of roast coffee. It has a full flavor with roast coffee, a touch of chocolate, and includes a full bodied texture to give it a good mouthfeel. Very good porter.

yum....thats about it. black with a tan head, aroma is of chocolate roasted malts, almost extra stout like with a slight hoppiness but nothing crazy, this is the best reason to not have something made into an imperial.

Röstiger und süßer Malzantrunk mit einem Toffeetouch. Röstiger wird es im Mittelteil, Kaffeenoten kommen hinzu, die Süße steigt leicht. Dazu etwas herb und trocken. Dezent nach Pflaume. Vollmundiges Porter. 8/9/9/9/5/9

355ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a tight, medium head. Aroma is peat, tar and a little bacon. Taste starts with peat and smoke. Tar and peat on the finish. Really nice beer, drinks above it’s strength.
