This is a bigger and bolder version of our classic imperial stout Idjit. So, what does that make this beer then? An imperialer (it’s a word) stout? A more imperial stout? Let’s just say it’s big. Big idjit!
For a long time, almost since our very beginning, we’ve brewed our iconic imperial stout Idjit. We’ve not only brewed the regular version but barrel aged versions, putting it in everything from whisky to bourbon barrels. We’ve done a Christmas version and even a half version in which we cut the ABV down a bit. What we’ve never done (commercially) is a maxed out version. Well, until now that is. We’ve wanted to do this beer for a long time, an Idjit with extra everything. A straight forward big, bigger, biggest imperial stout. No fuss, just thick malty loveliness.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 21 Sep 2018) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with sweet liquorice, coffee and dark chocolate. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, liquorice, chocolate truffles, vanilla, a touch of wood and a balanced cacao bitterness in the finish. Full body, smooth and rounded mouthfeel. A certain sweetness. Really tasty and well balanced, with alcohol well hidden. Very nice.

23 November 2018. At Billie's Bier Kafetaria, Antwerp. Cheers to Anke! Pours hazy black with a lasting, thin, foamy, beige head. Intense aroma of toasted, almost burnt bread, burnt caramel, coffee roast, roasted & salted peanut, brownie, chocolate fudge, vanilla, fondant. Medium, nearly heavy, malty sweet onset, balancing notes of toast & chocolate sauce & vanilla, some nutty tones, salty even, bordering on soy-like umami; light to medium roasted bitter middle has toast & coffee roast, already warming up. Dryish, toasty finish, small but apparent dash of peppery hops, lingering toast & chocolate, warming whisky alcohol. Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Roastedness is key here: this is a big, bold RIS.

Sampled draft @ Billie’s Bier Kafétaria. Even more imperial version of the RIS, scaled further up. Black with a small mocha head. Nose is coffee, bit roast, dark chocolate, low herbal. Lots of coffee in the taste touch too roasted for me bitter chocolate & coffee, brownie, low umami. Thick bodied. I turlly adore the regular one, excess doesn’t improve upon for me. Bit more roast and touch of umami here, way less sweetness, bit unbalanced whilst not a step-up, really good beer on its own terms.

330ml Bottle - Black with a small head. Liquorice, coffee and plain chocolate all feature in the slightly earthy aroma. Liquorice, coffee, chocolate and vanilla can all be detected in the taste. Quite easy to drink for being so potent.

At a tasting, many thanks, almost no head, opaque very dark brown color, mellow chocolate aroma with toasted bread, mellow vanila notes and just a muddy hint, flavor of brown sugar, just a little burned, chocolate cake and soy with hints of metal and dark fruits, intensley sweet but mellow. Really good and highly enjoyable.

250mL bottle, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out light toasted malt, cocoa and sweet caramel. Flavour is boozy and sweet, with heaps of caramel, brown sugar and dark fruits. Cloyingly sweet, but it works well enough.
