Sampled from tap @ Leuven Innovation Beer Festival. Opaque murky yellow - ish color, huge creamy white head that lasts for a long time. Smell and taste sour, salt, bacon, smoke. Not my thing at all. Yuk!

0,5 l bottle from Vormann Brauerei, bottled in 2014. Murky, golden orange with a massive, fluffy, slowly diminishing, white head. Smoky-citrusy aroma of smoked ham and lemon, spruce, ginger and maybe hints of juniper. Sourish-smoky taste of smoked ham, lemon, ginger, banana and spruce, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter and gently salty finish. Medium body, fizzy mouthfeel, massive carbonation. Very interesting to try and quite tasty. Good one!

Draft sample @ Leuven Beer Innovation 2015, shared with the RB Belgian crew.

Thanks for sharing people! Sampled @ Leuven Innovation Beer Festival. Hazy orange, light white head. Nose is very rustic & lactic which weirdly mixed with a peated quality, puckering,… Taste is weird mix of lactic, burning plastic peat, odd mix of fruit, puckering, mineral, phenolic,… Overly carbonated, very odd beer, interesting but works only partially,… Interesting. My highest rated Monarchy beer so far.

Collaboration brew made at The Monarchy, the small Cologne brewery which gave rise to the exciting Freigeist project. Very thick and rocky, dense, sticky, off-white head, colour cloudy yellow blonde. Interesting aroma of smoked bacon and smoked herring, green peppercorns, wheat, celery salt, coriander, sour cream and seaweed. Soft sour taste, wheat, lemon accent, green apple, smoky touch in the middle, coriander in the finish, ending dry and sourish but quite ’full’. Interesting take on the Gose style, which is seeing a fascinating revival in this day and age.

Due to artificial coloured illumination, appearance not estimable, arbitrary 4/5 Very smoked, as drinking smoked ham with an extra dose of phenolic tannines, drenched in sourish marinade with herbs. Phenolic taste too, but much more balanced than the nose led to believe. Even a bit sweet. Medium bodied, slick. Nose is exaggerated, but the rest makes up for a quite good Rauch.

Little cloudy yellowish beer, creamy yellowish dense head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very peated, more peat, bit funky. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very peated, smoky, sourish, lemony, funky. Aftertaste: more peat still, lemon juice, sourish, spicy touch.
