Back in the days, only uncomplicated and tasteless beers excited and people started feeling bored before happy hour was up. Molotov Lite is a understated tour de force in rebellious hoppiness, it’s a subtle spark for action and yet by far one of the most anti-authoritative beers ever made by Evil Twin Brewing.

Tap at Beer Hunters. Hazy orange color, firm medium-sized off-white head. Good tropical fruity aroma. Medium-bodied to full-bodied. Pineapple, citrus, grapefruit and resin in the flavour. Malty. Nice intensive fruityness in the flavour. Ok.

Grabbed a can of this from Legacy. Just a touch of haze. Colour is dull tan. Very thin head. Looks like a shitty krepkoe. Smells like imperial IPA - resinous, citrusy hops are indeed forceful. On the palate, quite bitter. A fair bit of malt, touch sticky but just a touch. Mostly this is a showcase for piney, resinous hops. Light citrus accent, maybe some malt chewiness, and definitely some alcohol in the finish. Just a nice, basic, straight-up IIPA.

Batch 19 can from West Side. Pours a hazy light copper gold with a finger of head that dissipates quickly. There are some floaties jumping around in the glass as well. Faint overripe oranges and a touch of booze. Light bodied and quaffable, but seems a tad boozy and the hops are lifeless. It’s pretty old I assume...I would guess a year or so. Will have to try again, if only I knew what date the batch numbers were brewed on.

Another Evil Twin beer brewed at Two Roads, in the Molotov series. From a tall boy can bought online. Thick and frothy, egg-white, coarse and irregularly shaped, lightly lacing, stable head over a hazy orangey blonde beer with somewhat salmon pinkish hue. Strong bouquet of bitter oranges, moldy lemon, lime blossom, cream cheese, pomegranate, caramel, fried egg, roses, parsley, home made lemonade, cooked chicken, ripe pear, raw celery, rusty nails - this is clearly an older can, with faded hop fragrance having become cheesy, quite a lot of intrusive protein aromas and onsetting oxidation. Very fruity onset, lots of pear, melon, pineapple and green banana, sweet with a soft sourish edge as well as a light green olive-like umami aspect; spritzy carbo, smooth and lightly oily mouthfeel, going down easily and not betraying its ABV - until the finish, that is, because quite a strong glow of vermouth- or orange liqueur-like alcohol develops in the finish, meeting an aromatic, orangey and grapefruity hop bitterness, spicy and pleasantly drying; orange and biscuity malt sweetness remains stuck to the root of the tongue but not at all disturbing. Enjoyable bready yeastiness remains as well. Nicely sweet malt core, lots of ’finishing’ alcohol without becoming overly wry and pleasantly spicy with a lovely bready aspect to it: this is, even at an older age with a hop character that has become old and even a bit ugly, still a very nice IIPA in terms of pure flavor, showing all the typical aspects associated with it. Obviously there is nothing even remotely ’lite’ about this - but I wasn’t expecting that from Evil Twin anyway.

Can. Yellowish golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is fruity, nectary, some berries as well as some herbal notes. Flavour is big time fruity and floral hoppy bitterness along with mild grassy notes. Some slight alcohol sweetness as well as some toffeeish and biscuity maltiness to it.

Pours a cloudy, golden yellow, with lots of floating bits (yeast? hops? hope it’s edible). Big citrus and tropical fruit aromas. Flavor is very bitter, with citrus and pine/spruce hop bite. Bitter finish.
