How a Red Ale is supposed to taste. Mild aromatics of sweet toasted malt and light smoke entices the drinker to this dark decadent red ale. What follows is a velvety smooth beer with a complimentary combination of chocolate and dark forest fruit flavours on the tongue.

440ml can @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Aug 21. Thanks Jeremy for this one. Pours a dark ruby, thin off-white / beige head. Roasty nose. Taste presents nice toasted malts with mild dried dark fruit and berry hints, and additional roasted notes. Interesting and works nicely.

9th August 2021: Shrewsbury Gathering at Chez Sophie. Five likely lads sharing beers. I brought this 440ml can (BB 1st Mar 2022) from Candid Beer, Stafford. Very dark pour, ruby hue to it's colour, weak beige head on each glass. The can artwork was interesting. Subtle chocolate and fruity esters/flavours, but all too understated for me, I was expecting an Irish Red with bold statements and oomph, rather than the usual malty fronted ale the style is known for.

440ml can. Clear, chestnut colour with ruby shimmer and average to huge, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige head. Slightly earthy, grainy, bready, minimally chocolately, malty aroma, hints of coffee surrogate, cocoa powder, very cautious (forest) fruity overtones. Taste is minimally watery, toasty, bready and slightly grainy, malty, minimally metallic, hints of grey bread, coffee surrogate, whiffs of cocoa powder, subtle sweetness, a very cautious touch of dark fruit, forest fruit; lingering, metallic finish. Watery texture, minimally dry palate, mildly prickly carbonation. Earthy, veggie, almost a bit fungous - meh.

Can from Bottle Baron. Murky ruby body with a medium beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of coffee, brown bread, treacle and plum. Flavour of roasted malt, brown sugar, chocolate and cranberry. Medium body with a creamy texture. Soft fizz. A nice beery beer - rich and warming.

From the can. Dark red with a thin, foamy crown. Aroma of strawberry jam and caramel. Taste is mildly sweet, with lingering notes of nuts and caramel with a just discernable fruity twang that rounds out the finish. Body stays fairly light but is not watery, carbonation is mild. Pretty good.

Very good cream-tan head over well-carbonated, veiled cola-coloured beer. Chocolate, caramel, brown bread, liquorice, even toffee. Wry-ish (short of bitterish) - sweet flavour, with Bock-like features as caramel, sweet brown bread, nuts, dry autumn leaves, plus a bit of leather and again chocolate (certainly warming up). Less sweet than the nose suggested, but sweet enough. Not very well-bodied, slick but even a bit thinnish. Good carbonation, lending a point of acidity to the finish. Not bad but... to speak in terms of chocolate, instead of "dark red" , "milk red" would seem more appropriate. 6/4/6/3/13

Geproefd bij brouwerij het Veem met Roelzie1986. Het is een donker bruin bier met weinig schuim. Het heeft een gebrande licht fruitige geur. De smaak is gebrand, chocolade en rood fruit.

Keg @ Tanyard Lane, Tullamore [070418]
A3, N6, T7, P3, O14
Dark red brown, dark in bar though, bubbly white head
Aroma - Soft red fruity malts, dull nose
Taste of sweet caramel malts, dab of toffee. very soft roast, malty, some soft red fruity malts, more roast as it warms up, slight chocolate, light bittering hops,
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, more body than usual for red ales. Finish as main flavour, soft malts, light bitter roast
Overall - One of the best red Irish Ales...usually a boring dull style...this has more flavour and body...would be nice on cask
