Struise C-DOS Cuvée Delphine On Steroids aka Pablo Eiscobar

Cuvée Delphine 2010 barrel aged for a year on 4 Roses bourbon barrels, then double eisbocked to 41% abv. Barrel aged furthermore for 4 years on Arran Lochranza barrel. This is about beer a massive amount of whisky aromas and flavors. Not for pussies, nor beer geeks

Sample from a 33 cl bottle @ De Struise, Bruges. Aroma has salmiac, lots of alcohol and some salty licorice. Flavour has salmiac, strong stinging and warming alcohol and some licorice. Medicine-like. Very warming stuff.

February 2015 bottle, shared by James on 6/10/16. Thanks!
Still, clear, mahogany-amber liquid.
Huge whiskey, spice, caramel, treacle, toffee nose with plenty of sweetness/richness to combat the big alcohol and barrel notes. Honestly didn’t think it was particularly obnoxious given its size. There are very light Madeira notes which help balance as well as a strong fruitiness (plums, prunes, raisins, figs).
Certainly warming in the mouth, with alcohol and moderate wood dryness playing against rich raisin-toffee, milk chocolate and fudge. Not syrupy, thanks to the alcohol and no signs of any unwanted oxidation, which is quite interesting. Not my type of thing, of course, but I like that it’s more balanced than most Imperial Stouts these days (low on sugar with strong whiskey and moderate alcohol notes, none of which are harsh/sharp/messy).

Sample from bottle shared with BBGTC. Pours black, with no head. Aroma is rather hot, but still incredibly balanced considering the ABV. Dark roasted malts with bread, cocoa, coffee and molasses, as well as leather, tannins and wooden barrels with some heathery notes. Creamy body, with an almost unnoticeable carbonation. Flavour is hot, dark roasted malts with grain, dark fruity notes, tobacco and cocoa, as well as heather and some herbal notes.

30.05.2016, 0,35l bottle shared @ BBGTC tasting:
Tiny bubbly shortlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry mineraly, weeds, bark, minerals, dark malts, dark sugar, burnt caramel, burnt sugar, oak, booze, licorice, dark fruits. Taste is dry boozy, weeds, minerals, oak, booze, bark, burnt sugar, burnt caramel, grass, dark malts, licorice, burnt coffee. Medium bitterness, dry mineraly boozy mouthfeel. Not really my cup of tea. Way too boozy...

Bottle sample courtesy of linusb. Pours hazy viscous blackish dark brown with no head leaving some subtle legs on the glass. Smell is malty and heavy boozy with burnt caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, dark chocolate, dark fruits in brandy and heavy bourbon alcohol. Taste is sweet, slightly bitter, very tiny sour and extremely heavy boozy. Mouthfeel is viscous, round, burning boozy and medium bodied. Finish is pretty much all peppery cheap bourbon booze. Drinks like cheap bourbon mixed with vodka. Not my thing. --- Beer merged from original tick of C-DOS Cuvée Delphine on Steroids aka Pablo Eiscobar struise on 28 May 2016 at 13:11 - Score: 4.
