Struise C-DOS Cuvée Delphine On Steroids aka Pablo Eiscobar

Cuvée Delphine 2010 barrel aged for a year on 4 Roses bourbon barrels, then double eisbocked to 41% abv. Barrel aged furthermore for 4 years on Arran Lochranza barrel. This is about beer a massive amount of whisky aromas and flavors. Not for pussies, nor beer geeks

Nearly black (brown) fluid, alcohol tears. Chocolate, chocolate rum cake, wood, vanilla, whisky, eggnog. Fiery MF, but with unexpected flavours as vanilla, incense, beeswax, fusels & higher esters, rubber (as in sulphury), rumbonen. Alcoholburn², slick-viscous-oily; astringency & dry-out effect, due to the ABV. OMG. One thing: compared to the BrewDog mindblasters, these Struise are way more akin to spirit, than to beer. The BD’s are effectively still beer...

Bottle @ joes. Black colour with no head. Smells alcohol, roasty, slightly glue. Tastes herbs, schrobbelaer, totally weird, gluhwein, weird fruits. Full body obviously, no carbo.

Bottle sample, thanks to Tderoeck. Yeah, and that’s about all that I could endure.

Bottle sampled at Beer Bros BBQ, Antwerp thanks to Geus. Pours thick dark brown with no head. Aroma of molasses, booze, caramel, light wood notes, alcohol, fudge and cough medicine. Flavour is heavy sweet. Thick in the mouthfeel with a huge alcohol burn. Nothing balanced and hidden in this one. Just crazy strong liquor. Nothing like the other struise eisbocks. Not pleasant.

Black colour, firm tan head. Aroma of chocolate, cacao, bourbon, vanilla, wood. Light sweet, light bitter flavour, quite boozy, cacao, wood. Light carbonatuon. Full body, alcoholic finish, cacao, chocolate, coffee, bourbon, whisky. This beer does make sense. Had it before from bottle, without carbonation, but the light bubbles bring out the best of this beer. It’s a beast, oh yes, but a gentle one, that leaves a lot of space for Delphine.

Older rating - only one day before, actually
Black, no real head. Aroma of liquorice, alcohol and wood. Flavour liquorice, chocolate, alcohol, whisky, wodka even. Full body. Finish liquorice, cacao, brown sugar.

350 ml. bottle sampled @ “Hot & Sweaty RBBSG 2015”. BBF 28/05/2020. I actually heard some carbonation escaping when the bottle was opened. The resulting liquid is completely flat. Pours a black with no signs of carbonation (unsurprisingly I assume). It really sticks to the side of your glass, insane legs. Nose is huge on paint thinner like alcohol, varnish, hugely raw & unrefined alcohol, some rubbing alcohol, oddly chlorine as well, raw unrefined cheap alcohol dominates with light soy sauce, umami & roast. Taste is hugely focused on black liquorish & heavy alcohol akin to very cheap vodka, light soy sauce, faint roast, cough syrup, light varnish, burned coffee, finish really burns esp. if you take a bigger sip, it finishes in the back of your throat like a cheap vodka,…. Body is oddly thin, varnish-like, touch soy sauce,… Lacks absolutely all refinement, very raw spirit basically – it lacks any beer character. You can easily recreate this flavor profile by getting discount vodka & infusing it with black liquorish,… It is a pretty low standard spirit basically. Considering how all Struise beers have been edging closer recently to high alcoholic syrup, this “beer” is a logical step I assume.

Sampled from bottle @ RBBSG 2015. Opaque black color, no head. Smell and taste pure alcohol, vodka or other strong liquor. Just pure alcohol. Undrinkable.

4/VII/15 - 20cl bottle from 't Schooltje, shared @ RBBSG IV - BB: 30/V/20 (2015-870) Thanks to Jolien and Bart for getting me the bottle!

Clear dark brown to black beer, small to no head. Aroma: alcohol, caramel, sweet, mocha, bit hoppy, more alcohol. MF: no carbon, medium to light body, shit load of alcohol. Taste: lots and lots of alcohol, caramel, spicy, feels like chillies, but I guess it's just the alcohol burning my throat. Aftertaste: lots of alcohol, more alcohol and that's about it.

Small sip at ZEBF 2015. Black oili liquid. Strong aroma of booze and vanilla. Taste is very boozy of course, with tones of vanilla and coffee. Long warm finish. Nice for a liqor, but too strong for a beer.
