Keg at Moe’s, Lee, MA. Pours clear, rich gold with a foamy, white head. Floral hops in the nose, some yeast. Light to medium sweet flavor, nice and bitter. Tons of floral bitterness, light grass, dough, light candi sugar. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Dries lightly in the finish, with notes, with lightly toasted sugar, grass, flowers. Seems just slightly watery, but overall very nice.

Big City Allston tulip ($5.25): The bartender poured it without a head, so I can’t comment on that aspect. The beer is a translucent red color. Sweet malty and cherryish aroma. Some Belgian notes are there, but not in full force. Tastes kind of sweet. The high alcohol is covered by the sugar I would assume. Mild hop presence and some bitterness throughout. Pretty fruity tasting. Good, but as others have said, far from great.

Sampled at Sunset Grill Allston. Pours a hazy yellow with some frothy white head. Fruity aroma, lightly sweet, light citrus. Flavor is malty, citrus, bread, a little sugar. Finish is medium bodied. Nothing wrong, per se, but completely forgettable.

Pours bright hazy orange red into a trappist glass. Head quickly subsides to skim rim with medium-sized bubbles. Sweet cherry and apricot aromas. Dry with upfront pit fruits which turns to a slightly unpleasant bitter finish.

Hazed golden ale with a thick onctuous white head. Sweet grapey malt in aroma, very smooth and pleasant, very fruity with notes of pineapples. In mouth, light hops meld well with the sweet malt, and light spices appears in the end. A medium bodied carries those elements very well. Bottle bought in Amherst, March 2006.

2004 bottle (Parrish Cafe Boston). Pours a thick looking, moderately wavy/glucose-like yellowish/pale gold with some lighter oranges in there. Little to no head. Served in its own glass. Aroma has hints of candied yellow apples, sweet honey, light peach and nectarine notes and just tons of sugar. True to the aroma, this one is significantly sweet. After trying a bunch of peppery strong goldens, it’s a nice change, but quickly proves to be too much malt. The yeast is light but noticeably belgian. Good zing from the hops half way through, which dont seem to be out of style and then the finish which is floral, lightly sweet and very clean and surprisingly quick. Decent beer, too much fruity/sugary sweetness though, and gets a bit too thin on the end.

A bit darker orangey; very little head, drops dead. Grapes, alcohol, candi sugar, orange rind in the nose. Also a bit meaty, faint whiff of diacetyl. Taste gives orangerind again. Much sweetness present, but absolutely not cloying. There is a hint of something diary-like, but no diacetyl traceable. Orangerind becomes slighte sourish. Not dry, neither. Medium-thick mouthfeel. Alcohol doesn't show. No new taste. Fruity, orangey tones fade out. IMO the least of the Rapscallion range, but still quite good - I can imagine a lot of people would just love it. Really a shame about the head.
