Beyond Good and Evil is one of Nietzsche’s most powerful works, challenging convention, ‘wisdom’ and ‘morality;’ urging us to transcend the restrictive, bounded concepts of good and evil; and confronting the relative nature of ‘knowledge.’ This both informs and inspires our work. Beyond Good and Evil is also the name of our bourbon barrel-aged maple imperial stout. Brewed in December of 2016, we crafted this beer with malted wheat and Vermont maple syrup. It then rested contentedly in hand-selected bourbon barrels from one of our favorite distilleries for nearly two years.

375mL bottle, pours a thick jet black with a small brown head. Aroma is complex as hell, with toasted nuts, bourbon barrels, light vanilla, brown sugar and roast. Flavour is complex as hell, with bourbon, maple syrup, roasted malt and light wood. I usually don't like maple syrup, but this is done perfectly. Complex, elegant and extremely well-balanced. Hill Farmstead nails it again.

2018-06-23, Sergey's hunt at Oakes Manor; bottled June 2017, 9-4-9-4-18=44
Black with no head, pours oily. Huge aroma, with toasted coconut, chocolate, bourbon, some tar; lovely. Full bodied, moderate residual sweetness for this kind of beer, balanced by prominent alcohol; chocolate bar (Mars), toasted peanuts, strong Bourbon; the alcohol is a bit too bozy.
Lovely beer.

Pitch black color, with sparse bubbles. Huge aroma; it perfectly marries leather, tobacco, roasted malts, spices and dark chocolate (9+). Sweet chocolate Jesus, with perfect veins of bourbon, spices, tobacco, vanilla; sweet with elegance; the absence of liquorice marks the greatness of this ambrosia.
Delicious.

Tasting at Jack’s RAH Annexe! Big thanks to HF procurer extraordinairre - Leighton! Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light, dry and crispy. Rich dark malts with a little sweet vanilla. Bourbon and bourbon spice. Unusual tone of something toffee like, maybe the Maple working it’s way through. Smooth light finish. Nice.

Bottle at Chateau Jackl, big thanks AGAIN to Herr Smith for ANOTHER HF delivery, 13/08/14. Black with a moderately appointed dirty tan head. Nose carries an earthy roast resonance, dirty tones, rich chocolate, dark toffee fudge, rich fruit cake. Taste comprises mellow dark fruit rinds, toffee fudge, sweet licks, earthy chocolate, very subtle bourbonics. Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, lightly warming booze at the curtain call. Solid impy.
