HOUTGERIJPTE SPONTANE SOUR STOUT

Batch #1 (10.5% ABV | Limited to 580 bottles)

Keg at the hanging bat. Pours black, nose is funk, oak, liquorice, leather, minty, taste is funky, zesty, floral, fruity, not too roasted, a bit acetic.

375ml bottle, many thanks to MonsterMagnet for this! Black appearance, thin off-white head. Quite a complex beast this. Good carbonation giving life to a smorgasbord of flavours encompassing cola, roasted nuts, liquorice, umami, espresso with a gentle vinous oak influence... excellent depth of flavour, hugely enjoyable.

Bottle. Color: Almost black, thin light brown head. Aroma: Roasted malt, red wine, coffee, Balsamico vinegar, some funk. Taste: Some roasted malt, a lot of fruity and vinuous notes of red wine, some red fruit and licorice hints, sour notes of Balsamico vinegar. Some wood, tannins and funk. Hints of coffee, mocha. Moderate sweet, light bitterness and just above moderate sour. Smooth, vinuous. Very well balanced and nice complexity. Medium body, low carbonation. The alcohol is well hidden. Pretty long lasting sourish fruity and coffee finish.
