A maroon 'Dubbel' with a malty and spicy fragrance, a mildly bitter flavour and a dry aftertaste. Her sweet scents of licorice and rock candy accompany her full taste of fruit and spices. This fiery flame has a spicy character but is mild to handle.

330ml bottle shared with Finn at ‘t Antwaerps Bierhuisken. Lacing, beige head atop of dark brown body. Smell of dusty hops and sweet malts. Caramel malts in flavour with scattered hints of yeast and spices. Dry, slightly fruity ending. Fine drinkability (Antwerpen, 28.04.2011).

(Bottle, Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with caramel, dark fruit, raisins, wort and spices. Malty taste with notes of caramel, dark fruit, raisins, prunes, cola, brown sugar and a spicy bitterness in the finish. Slightly more than medium body, starts quite sweet but dries out towards the end. Tasty and well balanced. Nice one.

(Bottle, 0.33 l) A gushing bottle which may be due to the fact that the I tried to cool the bottle on the window sill of my hotel room and it wasn’t a really cold spot. The beer poured dark brown and almost clear. Its head was medium sized and white with brown shading. Aroma was sweet and malty. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, mildly raisin, a little bit of fruitiness, hint of aniseed and low bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet. A too sweet and quite boring dubbel.

Bottle that I picked up at Bierkoning (I think), Amsterdam, Netherlands, consumed 04-11-09 Pours hazy brown. There is a deep fruitiness, dark demerara sugars, spicy yeasty, in fact a most pleasant beer. I understand that it translates as ’Mad Meg’ and the picture on the label is seemingly a combination of the anti-hero of the Pieter Brueghal painting and the large cannon named after her that resides in the market square in Gent, Belgium.
