This is our take on a double IPA. Although some would consider it somewhat ‘Belgian’ in its malt and yeast profile, we definitely crammed in all the juicy, fruity and fresh hops that any hophead could possibly wish for.
With Elliot, we tried to create a refreshing beer that’s dangerously drinkable while still maintaining that unxious mouthfeel that Struise is so renowned for. Being able to either quaffed or sipped, this is one of our most versatile multi-purpose beers.

bottle from Bierkompass. Hazy pale golden colour, large off-white head. Resiny hoppy nose. Full-bodied, malty base with shy yeasty hints, lots of resiny-grassy hops and a shy citrusy touch. Very good.

/bottled in a struise glass. Pours to a hazy dark orange with a large persistent off-white head. Aroma is a subdued sweet citrus hop. Taste is quite dry and bitter. Not much of the malty sweetness you get in the nose.

150 IBU??!?! 12oz bottle drank July 2010, not sure when it was brewed. Still holds up visually. Super murky red-brown. Frothy off white head. Relatively mellow, inoffensive dry, soapy hop aroma, a little alcohol laced. Perfect mouthfeel on this one, soft but full. Wow. This is a great beer, one of the best Belgian IIPAs I’ve ever had for sure. Super hoppy, in a bitter sugary orange way, maybe some straw dryness. The malts are big and toasty, maybe a hint of amber malt, which could be the aging. Awesome beer, worthy of the RateBeer moniker.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy amber with a huge light tan head and a good amount of lacing
Aroma: Pine, caramel, sweet malts
Taste: Sweet malts up front with some nice hop bitterness in the finish. Aroma: Pine and spices
Nice DIPA, to sweet for me. For the price ($10.99) I won’t buy another, but had to get it this time to support the brewers that support RateBeer.

Bottle from Beermerchants.com. Bought last summer as part of a Mikkeller/Struise case. One year later I’ve decided to crack it open. Pours a clear chestnut brown with a fluffy beige head which lasts for ages. Grassy, herbal, spicy aromas with a hint of caramel and toffee. Subtle caramel taste with flavours of baked apple, sweet spices. Very sharp hoppy character which is reflected in the mouthfeel too. Nicely balanced. Finishes hoppy and malty with a nice alcohol burn.

Brown bottle, 33 cl, best before 09 11, via Importations Privées Bièropholie (merci Hughes!), savoured on April 30 2010; eye: polished copper, clear, minimal effervescence, nice tan head made up of rather large bubbles and that turns into a nice sheet, nice lacing; nose: light hops, Madeira, light grain, slight spices; mouth: light hops, grain, caramel, light alcohol, dry finale is hoppier than expected, medium body, mildly bitter, lightly grainy texture, not much carbonation; overall: correct FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 33 cl, meilleure avant 09 11, via Importations Privées Bièropholie (merci Hughes!), savourée le 30 avril 2010; œil : cuivre poli, claire, effervescence minime, belle mousse fauve formée de bulles plutôt grosses qui se transforme en une bonne couche, bonne dentelle; nez : léger houblon, madère, léger grain, très léger épices; bouche : léger houblon, grain, caramel, léger alcool, finale sèche plus houblonnée que prévue avec légère astringence, corps moyen, moyennement amère, texture légèrement granuleuse, peu carbonatée; en résumé : correct

Grapefruit peel and caramel aroma, with healthy portions of the former. Hazy orange, enormous yellow, lacing head. Malty and vaporous. Quite bitter and nondescript, save for some hints of orange peel and moss. Good beer, but a little disappointing.

The bottle looks simple, the beer in the glass much better. Deep orange, huge head. Aroma like a barley wine. Starts very strong, but not alcoholic, intense hoppy and fresh, quite woody, also very fruity notes of apricot. Finish spicy-earthy, well balanced, modest sweet notes in the background. A wonderful beer!
