A special twist on the Finnish style Sahti, brewed at Nøgne Ø in cooperation between Dugges Brewery, Sweden, and Nøgne Ø of Norway. Brewed with rye and wheat, sea wormwood from the Swedish archipelago, juniper twigs from the Norwegian forests, honey from heather flowers in Telemark and three selected yeast strains from Belgium, Germany and Britain, and of course, some malt and hops too.

500 ml bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Gusher upon opening. Pours very cloudy reddish orange color with a small 1 finger off white head with good retention, that reduces to a very thin cap. Some light spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of big honey, grape, pepper, molasses, raisin, herbal, cherry, floral, citrus peel, and yeast spices. Beautiful aromas here with great balance and complexity. Taste of caramel, honey, molasses, pepper, grape, raisin, earth, herbal, floral, citrus peel, banana, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of caramel, molasses, herbal, floral, grape, pepper, and yeast spices on the finish for a while. Great balance of flavors; with absolutely no cloying at all. Medium carbonation and full bodied; with a very nice creamy, slick, and thick mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden at 11%, with only a warming after the finish noticed; definitely a slow sipper. Overall this is a great sahti! It felt a bit unbalanced at first; but it smoothed out as it reached room temperature. Really well done.

500 ml bottle shared @ Ölrepubliken. Pours hazy reddish orange with a small creamy white head that slowly dissipates while clinging to the glass leaving lots of lacing. Smell is sweet, fruity and floral with honey, plums, lemon zest, caramel, wood, hay, dried juniper berries and hints of oxidation. Taste is sweet and tiny sour and tiny metallic with loads of honey, wood, juniper berries, very dark sweet bread, hay, prunes, lemon zest and hints of quality tobacco. Mouthfeel is sticky sweet, round and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet with honey, flower nectar, wood and hay. Very sweet but good in small doses so share the bottle.

Bottle. Sour malt and a perfume (assuming this is the wormwood and heath) and juniper aroma. Sweet malt, perfume and moderately bitter juniper flavor - a hint of banana in the finish. Interesting - worth trying at least once.

Bottle @ Dan’s home. Slightly hazy, burnt orange appearance with an off white head. Spruce, juniper, orange citrusy, mild hoppy aroma. Slightly orange tangy, juniper, evergreen, organic, lemon, Belgian, very sweet flavor. Booze is hidden extremely well.

From a 500ml bottle (shared with Butz) on 27/8/2011 (batch No. 382, brewed 16/9/2008, best before 16/9/2013). Pours a hazy honey colour with almost no head. Has a really powerful rich, sweet honey, floral and fruity aroma. This one is very sweet with flavours similar to the aroma emerging. Honey dominates, but there are also berries and some citrus fruit present. Has just enough bitterness to head off the sweetness. This is like honeysuckle in a bottle. A very unusual and quite big brew. Enjoyable.

Bottled. A red beer with a thin orangey head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, juniper, honey, and flowers. The flavor is sweet with ntoes of alcohol, juniper, honey, flowers, and wormwood, leading to a dry, spicy, and alcholic finish.

Bottle shared with friends at tasting. Pours cloudy golden with little white head. Aroma is bananas and caramel. Flavour is butterscotch with slight banana and an alcohol warming finish. Not like a real Finish Sahti, but better tasting!

18/05/2011 50cl bottle @ Klaas' place - BB: 16/09/13 Bottled: 16/09/08 (2011-216) Thanks to Klaas for sharing the bottle!

Cloudy amber coloured beer, small off-white head. Aroma: honey, spices, flowers, vanilla. MF: good carbon, medium body, lots of numbing, no really, even paralysing alcohol. Taste: sweet honey, some spices, a little bitterness, alcohol burning in the back of the throat. Aftertaste: some citrus, still sweet honey. Alcohol is incredible in this one. That's why Palate only gets a 3. Still, very interesting beer. Too bad the juniper is not detectable any more after 2.5 years.
