Bottle shared with Deanso. Amber pour with small head. Aroma of malt and some spice. Flavour malty with caramel but quite mild with a slightly unpleasant bitter bite.

Pours dark copper with ruby tints and a small head.Nose shows faint malt with caramel and dark confectionery notes but unfortunately there’s a metallic hint. Later on some darker toasty notes become apparent.Flavours are more focussed towards dark malt than the aroma with plenty of nutty chocolate malt but are still very sweet. Some spicy hops are noticeable and are followed by a gentle bitterness with some roasted character.Carbonation is too high for the flavours in my opinion.

From a 330ml bottle on 8/3/2010. Note the label on my bottle states the Alc/Vol is 6.1% rather than 6.7%. Has a rather subdued malty aroma which doesn’t give much of a hint to the flavour to come. There is a lot happening when it hits the mouth - roasted (almost burned) malt, chocolate, a hint of nuts, and a curious dash of lemon. Some sweetness balanced by a good whack of bitterness. Not too bad at all.

Bottle. Clear dark red brown with no head. Not a very distinctive aroma but definite hints of toffee and coffee. Thick creamy palate. Flavours of dark malts, chocolate, caramel, with no obvious hop bitterness, but some burnt bitter notes. A reasonable beer, but not very special and didn’t seem to really all work together well.

Bottle. Pours dark copper. A finger and a half of beige head, fades to half that. Smells of caramel and resin. Quite carbonated. Dried fruit giving way to coffee and semi-bitter chocolate. Pretty good.

Draught at the brewpub. Hazy chestnut brown. Roasty malt aroma. A dryish beer dominated by roasty malt, creates strong coffeelike flavours. A careful hop rate lets the malt flavours dominate and results in low bitterness.
