I found toffeeish and caramel accented, but lacking depths to become anything outstanding.

Vom Faß im 7 Stern Bräu, Wien. - Nicht besonders dunkles Kastanienbraun. - Nase sehr mild, kaum wahrnehmbar: etwas Karamel, schwach fruchtig.

Tap at the brewery. Aroma is a bit mild, I get more caramel, less roasted. Clear dark amber-brown colour. Stable head. Taste goes in the same direction as aroma, with just a hint of coffee. Mostly sweet, caramelly. Decent, but the plain sweetness bores me very quickly. Moderate duration of finish, where a bit more of the roast shows itself.

Tap at 7 Stern. It pours deep brown with a medium off-white head. The nose is diacetyl, buttered toast, toffee, roasted malt and wood. The taste is roasted malt, wood, leather, touch of dark fruit, some butter, smoke, charcoal and hint of toffee with a long, dry finish. Medium body and moderate, prickly carbonation. Pretty sub-standard and yet more diacetyl....

Bottle at Craig’s tasting 16th Oct 2012
Cheers Dan! This is my first Austrian beer...........
Very dark caramel brown, bit hazy, off white head
Aroma - light sour note, touch of dark malt
Taste - soft dark fruits, bit sour fruits, getting more sour with the drinking....shame the bottle doesn’t seem to have kept
Palate - soft carb, thin palate. Finish- well it’s continuation of the main flavour...bit sour
Overall - It’s hard to make a judgement as the bottle seems to have turned
