The latest beer in our experimental Abstrakt series. Fans of Bashah Special Reserve get excited: for it is deep within that collaborative gem that AB:12 found it’s liquid inspiration. AB:12, which has just been transferred from oak casks back into one of our tanks, is a 11.2% imperial black Belgian ale which has been aged for 8 months in single grain Scotch whisky casks with a medley of fresh Scottish berries (tayberries, blackberries & raspberries).

Bottled 12/12/12, bottle #9482/9829 - Pours pitch black with a tiny head. Aroma of berries, wood, hints of oak and yeasty maltiness. Taste is heavy with loads of berries, whisky, wood and juicy blackcurrant notes. Finish is smooth and oaky with loads of berries and blackcurrant notes. Quite strange berry juice.

Bottle, shared with Andrew. Black body with no head or lacing. Aroma of treacle, whisky and salted caramel. Flavour of sweet treacle and raspberry syrup. Strong alcohol. Medium body with a slick, oily texture. Soft carbonation prickle. A complex beer but it tastes a bit too boozy for my liking.

Bottle from Stirchley wines. Black brown colour with a slight tan head. The fruit is present on the aroma, and more so on the taste, real bitter fruitiness. Also some liquorice.

Black with olmost no head, no carbonation - dark malt aroma with some hops - overly sweet malt body with some alcohol sting, very small hint of hops - sweet fruity finish with alcohol heat - This lacks bitterness, just a sweet alcoholoc mess , not a Black Ipa in my opinion

BrewDog Bar Manchester 24 Jan 13. Kullsort. Lavt skum med litt farge. God aroma av ripsbær. Smaken har et klart vill-bringebærpreg. Svakt syrlig ettersmak. Alkoholen er bortintegrert.

Bottle from Rakuten, shared at a dark beer tasting. A dark brown pour that is black in the glass. It has a woodsy barrel aged character in the nose. The taste is sweet, berry/cherry flavor that is ,really delicious! After that you get some barrel aged character in the finish. I really like this it is a mix of sweet berries & dark malt character. My second favorite of the night.

Bottle at home. Has a deep reddish brown colour with a small, fast diminishing, light brown head. Slightly sweet aroma of oak, vanilla, liquour, black berries, some licorice and caramel. The flavour is more sweet with tones of candy and Bassets licorice. Has still an oak and liqour touch. Silky mouth feel, and has a light bitterness. A pretty sweet and complex beer.

375ml bottle shared with jeevan. Pours jet black, thin tan head. Aromas of whisky and jam and chocolate liqueurs. Taste has more of the same, strong whisky note and sweet red fruit at the end. Creamy, perhaps oily. Long finish. Good.

#2900. Bottled on 12/12/12. Bottle #7732 of 9829. Lightly reddish black, little head, almost none, mocha. Boozy whiskey nose with mocha, alcohol, oak, syrupy, slight berries but not as in the actual berries that should be in here, red fruits, sweet brown sugar,... Taste is syrup, liquorish, boozy, light oak, bark, light berries but none of the berries promised here, cheap chocolate, light cherries soaked in booze, sweet brown sugar, syrupy, warming. Slick, little carbonation & bit light. Doesn’t live up to the promise like the other AB’s, pretty simple & I am really missing the berries promissed.
