Draught @ Beer Shop, Oak Park (Jan 2024). Dark brown with red highlights, large foamy beige head, mocha aroma with rum, medium carbonation, bitter mocha taste with alcohol undertones, thin body, long bitter mocha finish with alcohol aftertaste. A bit boozy but fulfilling too.

Draft at Orange and Brew. Deep brownish black with a thin ring of foam. Strong espresso nose, and little else. Espresso and pourover coffee dominate the palate. Then somewhat rough spot today malt. Alcohol is the most mellow part of this brew, making for a respite from overpowering coffee flavor.

Another chance to catch on Half Acre while dropped in to Maria’s Community Bar. On draft, and on Monday’s it’s $5! Deal me in! Solid black of course, but with a thin, tan head. Smell starts with coffee and black licorice, which can be a little out of my comfort zone. Taste, though, is silky and oily at the same time. A lower bubble level helps bring in the impression of Kahlua with vanilla, as the anise on the nose is not found on the tongue. Still potent, but oddly not as forceful with the alcohol as the Chairman I just has was. Despite the potential for harsh roastiness, this beer is very very mellow. May not have all the bells and whistles as a Dark Lord, and you may still only be get bottles one day a year, but by George, you can find some on tap afterwards/

16oz can from my brother. Dark brown pour, thick fluffy beige head subsides some, streaky lacing. Chocolate and roast malts vie for your attention in the aroma. Roasty malts with a hint of coffee kick off the taste. Light chocolate, bitter, faint sweetness. Full, creamy feel.

Pint can - nearly black pour - well-retained tan lace for the strength - creamy texture - flavors of vanilla, chocolate, strong espresso - coffee addition does add a slightly sharp acidity, but that subsides by the finish - some cream and blueberry late - a little rough around the edges - I prefer the bourbon barrel version.
