Golden Pride is a Fuller’s special - an exceptionally fine, strong ale of immense character and finesse. Powerfully flavoured with toasted orange and dried fruit notes throughout, it has an intense, lasting finish.

Bottles from Waitrose (2014, 2025 and 2026). Clear amber/ruby body with a thin off-head. Fine carbonation. Patchy lacing. Aroma of caramel, honey and wood. Flavour of stewed fruits, earth and warming spices - it tastes like a rich Belgian beer. Medium body with a slick texture. Light fizz. This is sublime - a rich, warming beer.

Bottle @ home. Pours deep, clear copper with thin, quickly disappearing head. Nose is typical English ale-like, something I can’t really describe. In taste it’s mainly sweet, with hints of grains but there are some hops in there too. Closes with bittersweet finish, has soft carbo and light to medium body.

I remember hearing this was the base for the vintage ales, and i can really taste it. Very bready, boozy malts. Light hopping, some pine, and resins. Quite a bit of cereals but still the bready, brandy malts are up front. Just loaded with flavor, this is a real treat.

50cl bottle, a few months old that friends gave me, pours a clear, garnet amber with some creamy white head. Nose has treacle, booze, honey, malt. Very malty. Lots of grain. Feels a bit like an under nuanced test beer for the vintage ales. Flavor is chewy malts, some bubblegum, some treacle, sticky toffee pudding. Boozy finish, full bodied. 6 4 6 3 12
