Like a Russian Matryoshka or ’nesting’ doll, the secret of Dosvidanya® Russian Imperial Stout lies locked deep within her mysterious & elaborate wooden layers. The hidden soul of this oak bourbon barrel-aged beer that we said Dosvidanya (’goodbye’) to several months before revealing, is its rich flavors like dark chocolate, toffee, black cherries and coffee along with robust & roasty maltiness that finishes dry.

Pitch black coloured body with a very thin, relatively fast-dying light brown head, but the oil and opacity of this one make it strong enough. Aroma of roasted malt, oatmeal, molasses, smoked peat, caramelised sugars, alcohol, maple syrup and a heavy hand of bourbon really make this pungent and strong in the nose. Full-bodied; Strong velvety feel in the mouth with a pungent, deep, molasses and brown sugar sweetness with a lot of bourbon and alcohol warmth right up front, with a huge dose of smoked peat, oatmeal and earthy nuts right behind - this is quite pungent obviously, and full of robust flavours, especially the bourbon. Aftertaste is super pungent with the roasted malt, grain, molasses, oatmeal and especially the bourbon and alcohol warmth very strong still. Good to sample, and despite the deep flavours, this is slightly mellow for the ABV, but would do better with a few more years in the bottle to mellow out the pungency. Overall, a nice beer and if I had easier access to this, I'd try all the other varieties and keep them for a few years in my cellar, but aside from that, I was able to at least sample this one (two years old) and sample others, probably in a few years time when I get back out to get more from the brewery. I sampled this 50 cL bottle, dated on the side with a marker '2018 Batch', purchased from Boyd's Wine & Spirits in Rapid City, South Dakota on 30-June-2020 for US$17,89 (quite expensive!) sampled in my hotel room here in Rapid City, South Dakota, just a day later on 01-July-2020 before going back home to Washington.

5-oz. pour on tap at The Grill Next Door, Haverhill. Appearance is opaque black with no sparkle, thin cap of light brown head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong roasted malts, cream and mild bourbon. Taste is strong flavor--roasted earthy malts, vanilla, nuts, cream, restrained bourbon and hint of anise. Mouthfeel is medium-to-full bodied with velvety smooth texture, average carbonation and dry bittersweet roasted finish as taste. Overall, bourbon is restrained so is a nice complement to the stout but not overly assertive. Taste and mouthfeel are like a homey warm blanket. Very well done.

Tap. Pours opaque black, small tan head, good lacing. Aroma is molasses, bourbon, a hint of char, bakers chocolate, anise, vanilla. Flavor is rich but not sweet, medium bitter, well integrated, almost a coffee thing. Lingering heat. Full body, lingering bitterness.

500 ml bottle. 2015 vintage. Pours black with short tan head. Aromas of vanilla, sweet dark fruit, dark fruity chocolate, mocha and rich roasted malts. Rich dry flavors follow same with additional dark raisins, dusty dark chocolate, light woody oak, and tons of rich dry roasted malts. Pricey but worth it. Wow.

Dosvidanya, I think William Smith said this in Red Dawn. Great movie, in my top ten of all time. But I digress. I picked up this 500 ml bottle in Odessa at The Cellar last spring, not inexpensive. Imperial stouts need to be consumed in cooler weather, we are there. I take off the lid and pour into my preferred imperial stout tulip glass from Buffalo Bayou, thank you very much. Great entry, black black black body completed by a slender tan top, quickly disappearing. I get the scent from a distance, strawberries, cocoa, grain and hay. Go figure. The taste, wow, where do I start. First, it is very full in the mouth, thick, complete. Cane sugar sweet, dark chocolate, berry, ash, burned toast, heavy malt. Deep and dark. Really good if you get off on imperials. I only bought one. Too bad.

Can't remember who sent me this bottle. It's completely black, 1 finger bubbly head that fades to a thin line. The aroma is smooth, sweet espresso bean, dark chocolate syrup. Very sweet, really not too bitter. has a ton of cocoa. very sweet. It's nice but the sweetness really lingers. a mild burn but light for a 12.5% beer.

Bottle shared at Lucky Bamboo share. Thanks Zack! Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of foam that lingers. Lots of bourbon on the nose with chocolate, cacao and coffee notes underneath. Smooth on the palate, with the bourbon and vanilla notes coming through strong. Finish has some lingering bourbon heat. Well made if a bit straight forward.

Bottle shared by Yaniv, thanks! Pours near black with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has dark grains and roasted malts with a warming bourbon note supporting. Flavor has sweet dark grains and roasted malts with a strong bourbon note backing.
