Real vanilla beans from Madagascar combined with caramel and Munich malts create a beer that’s balanced and flavorful. Aromas of vanilla and toasted grain set the stage for mellow flavors of vanilla and dark roasted malts. Don’t let its deep mahogany color fool you. Vanilla Porter is dark in color and packed with flavor, yet it is as smooth as they come and easy to enjoy at any time of the year.

On tap at Hair of the Dog, St Louis. Black with beige head. Some roastiness, chocolate, vanilla, quite watery and thin. Expected more.

Notes from March 2011 The 18th already? I was just about to use some leftovers to make corned beef fajitas. :P Standard Ommegang glassware. Clear, dark ruby brown body. Inch of cream-colored head. Spiderweb lace. Alcoholic malted milk balls on the nose. Faint trace of macerated vanilla beans & just a bit of powdered sugar & dark chocolate. A touch fruity if you obsess about it. Vanilla is much more apparent on the taste. Very nice cream & wafer flavor. Backend dries up a little too soon with toasted, but near flavorless grain. Vanilla tries valiantly to linger, without feeling artificial. Barely a bitter bite. Carbonation could be better(little more then a tickle), but then it would feel even thinner. There is some froth here. Alcohol is light, & hides behind the vanilla. Not a strong bite, no body, barely hopped, dark with good flavor. Vanilla schwarzbier maybe? Not really fitting too snugly in the porter category. I may be a sucker for vanilla, but besides the identity crisis, this is a better beer then what the score currently indicates. Too many people comparing it to style could be the ratings only excuse.

Can/Fest. A- Artificial vanilla. A- Brown color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Vanilla ice cream, cream soda, faint cocoa. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, sweet finish. O- Loads of fake vanilla extract flavor. Almost like a melted ice cream mix. Swore I had had this in my first 100 beers but apparently it took me almost 5,000 to try it. Okay, I would've liked it when I was new to this, now it's not great, but appreciable.

(Tap) clear, bright orange amber colour with a small white head; aroma of cake, vanilla, simple flavour, more like a beginner’s amber ale, no finish

On Nitro at denver airport. Similar to Mill St, very clean and velvety smooth. Fairly light in color though.
