When fans last gripped their glasses at the end of Game of Thrones' sixth season, the great houses of Westeros were on the brink of an epic conflict. Cersei had ascended to the Iron Throne as the first queen of Westeros, Jon Snow and Sansa Stark had just reclaimed the North, and Daenerys Targaryen had set sail for the Seven Kingdoms. To commemorate the coming mêlée in the Emmy® Award-winning show’s epic seventh season, Brewery Ommegang and HBO Global Licensing are excited to announce a new beer in their collaborative series: Bend the Knee Golden Ale.
Paying homage to the struggle for control of the Seven Kingdoms, Bend the Knee will be available on draft and in a series of three collectible 750ml bottles, all finished in matte black and adorned with one of the three Great House sigils: Stark, Targaryen, or Lannister.
Bend the Knee pours a golden hue with a large, frothy head. Both the aroma and flavor mix maltiness and citrus from the hops, while Ommegang’s signature house yeast produces prominent fruitiness. Wildflower honey added during fermentation provides light sweetness to the beer, which finishes dry and with firm hop bitterness.
Malt: Pils malt and flaked oats
Hops: Saaz, Bravo, and Styrian Golding
Fit for any feast table, Bend the Knee’s clean and balanced flavor and effervescent carbonation make it a fine pairing for a variety of foods including seafood and shellfish, roasted or grilled chicken, grilled steaks, and aged Swiss-style cheeses.

Bottle from the LCBO, corked and caged. Clear golden pour, with a large white head. Aroma is yeasty, some nice stone fruit, subtle tropical fruit, and some solid pale malts. Very lively mouthfeel, and a effervescent body. Finish is low to medium bitter, with some solid fruit, and a nice sweetness that lingers throughout the end with some light white grape, and cereals to round it out.

Bottle: Poured a hazy pale amber color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet cereal notes with some bready yeast notes with light peppery notes is quite nice. Taste is a nice mix sweet cereal notes, light honey notes with some bready notes and light spicy/peppery undertones. Body is full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol notes. Solid rendition of the style with excellent drinkability.

Rich hazy golden colour with very nice active carbonation, a warmer head, frothy, long lasting with some patchy foam lacing. Nicely balanced Belgian Ale yeast with mild herbal hops and a touch of honey. All rounded up with the blonde ale malts. The taste has the yeast, the honey sweetness, the malt and a nice warming finish. This is like a really nice Belgian strong golden ale. Quite pleasant.

750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy amber with moderate head. Aromas of bready malts, dry honey, spicy yeast, and floral hops. Flavors of honey, dull fruit, definite Belgian yeast, and bready champagne. Very Ommegang. Good.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy golden with a medium white head. Aroma brings out a wonderfully effervescent Belgian yeast character upfront, with light spiciness. Flavour is along the same lines, with a great spicy Belgian yeast upfront, with light fruitiness and floral effervescence. Great yeast expression here, with deep complexity. Excellent.

The beer is a cloudy golden color with a medium white head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of yeast, fruit and malt. Medium to full body with flavors of Belgian yeast, clove, banana and malt. The finish is fruity with a yeast and spice aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
