5th September 2020
Hazy amber brown beer, small tan head. Smooth palate, slightly viscous, mild carbonation. Smooth malts, plenty of ripe caramel toffee and very ripe fruits. A little mellow Christmas spice. This shit normally ruins a beer but it's lightly sprinkled here. Ripe prune and very ripe citric peel. Smooth finish. It's very very ripe. Too much so for me. There is a line about how much ripe anything I want in any beer and this beer crosses that line and then goes for a jog beyond it. There is no contrasting factor here, ripe ripe ripe! All that said, if you had told me this was from 1969, I would have been impressed how well it had held up.

750 ml bottle into snifter, winter 2014 bottling. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, peach, grape, apple, citrus peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted bread, and herbal/spice earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity and balance of light/dark fruits, spices, and dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of huge raisin, plum, fig, peach, grape, apple, citrus peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted bread, and herbal/spice earthiness. Fair amount of herbal/spice bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, peach, grape, apple, citrus peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted bread, and herbal/spice earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and robustness and light/dark fruits, spices, and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/spice balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, and lightly slick/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming lingering after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic spiced barleywine style! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of light/dark fruits, spices, and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

750 ml bottle, from World of Beer, St. Pete. Bright amber, no head in the snifter. Aroma is all kinds of fruit... Pear, banana, white grapes and light English toffee. Flavor is right on point with the aroma. Tons of fruit throughout. Light ABV lingers on the tongue giving a warming sensation after the swallow. For sure would be better with a tad of age. Way smoother with some time but... Right now still a nice sipper. Spilt 3 ways with buddies during a mad ticking spree in Florida.

Sample at Daily Growler UA. Pours a slightly murky mahogany-amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily to a film. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, dark fruit and slight hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, raisins, citrus and earthy hops. The finish is malty and fruity with a fig and raisin aftertaste. Above average overall.
