As with all sour ales, the initial sip wakes up your dull senses. There is an elevated level of Acetic Acids working their magic in this beer. The first sip assaults the palate in an enamel stripping bottom of the pH chain sort of way. In Belgian brewing there are fantastic wild ales brewed with naturally occurring yeast. These beers develop over time and are ready on their own terms.

Duck Duck Gooze is our homage to these effervescent and wonderfully complex sparkling beers.A blend of young and old barrel aged beers, this has been one of our most sought after beers year after year since it’s original release in 2009. Alas, it is released in very small quantities only once every three years, so it’s extremely difficult to come by beyond the day we release it. It does, however, turn up on our Tasting Room’s Vintage List from time to time, so don’t despair.

75 cl. bottle sampled @ "Er Klopt Iemand Op De Deur" Samson & Gert Bierproeving I. Thanks to PriorL & Mathieu87! 2013 Vintage. Large rocky white head, lightly cloudy, yellow. Straw, hay, horseblanket, barnyard, light alcohol, pear, reminiscent of lambiek but different but more as a minor variation rather than something completely different, lemon, med. bitter wood in the back, lemon acidity but subdued, tart but not puckering, medium body. Harsh acidity but enjoyable so, moderate carbonation. SO far it seems like Lost Abbey really knows how to make sours.

Little cloudy bright yellow beer, just like a little duckling. :p Small creamy white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: sourish, brett notes, bit lemony, woody. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sour start, lemony, bit fruity, candy, citric, little metallic. Aftertaste: lemony, very sour, citric, soft bitterness, little yeasty. Very decent, this one!

2014 : B2 ? Pours unclear blonde , small white head Smells buttery sour Taste is sour , but not sharp . Oaky , not much funk or dryness . Very good carbonation Very drinkable . Doesnt live up to the rather extreme value , yet i am happy i have a second one . Re-rate in 2018 , also B2. Way to much on the simple, lactic acid. dry, grainy, Vinegar sourness… Intense tart background in the throat. lowering the score by 0.4 balance it out between now and than.

Pours a very light orange pour, nice clarity but no he’d formed. The nose has a very incredibly funky nose. Like the funkiest most earthy cheese with leather and lemons and fresh cut grass. Hmm, this is pretty good. It’s very sour but then fades away quickly to a sauvignon quality. Another wild ale that reminds me of lemon heads and sour candies. salt & vinegar chips and maybe some pickle juice. It’s good but I’m glad this bottle was split a few ways. It’s insanely intense and loaded with sour. Very nice but needs to be split 4 ways

Bottle @ Exira Beer Summit IV, Day 2. Thanks to womencantsail for sending! 750mL bottle, 2013 release. Pours a touch hazy golden yellow appearance with a white head. Funky/lemony, spritzy, cobweb/attic musty, guava/pineapple aroma. Cheesy, barnyard funk, lemon, big guava, pineapple, and dusty flavor. Fairly sour finish. Nice funk and quite delicious but not up to par with many Belgian counterparts. Thank you again, Andrew!

Bottle at Bruce’s new pad, from an IP trade with a guy from CA, 15/10/13. Hazed orange with a thin off white covering. Nose is tarte fruit, good dose of funkability, grassy, bitter orange, lemon sherbet, dank straw. Taste comprises tarte orange, dank straw, light must, subtle acidic tang, lemon rind, funky. Medium bodied, fine carbonation with a crisp finale. Top draw !
