In the final analysis, my favorite of the Abstrakt series (up to #17 anyway!). Back near its release date, this beer hit a blending of hops and dark heavier tastes that was hard to beat. Dark roasted malt, plums, leather and dates create an impressive backbone, but fruit-based hops fight their way though to bring out the Imperial IPA profile. Deep and complex. Just a warning - some recently opened bottles had lost the hop punch with a touch of sourness creeping into the aftertaste. My rating pertains to early tastings of the beer.

Dark brown. No head. That's an aroma - ok some soy sauce, the grease from my bike chain...there's things going on but is it good. No carbonation at all. The bitterness remains but there's no brightness to it. The malts have thinned out a fair bit, which is leaving with only a touch of malt and a bunch of bitterness. Definitely the structure and balance is in ruins here. I mean, it's old.

Poured from 375mL bottle (11.2% abv; bottled 16.05.2011; bottle 2080 of 8973; from the fiulijnator cellar). Medium dark brown with almost no off white head. Tons of oxidation, rubber, herbal, feint hops, meh.

375ml bottle 3572 of 10042, kindly bought and shared by TheCellarer at Brewdog, Oslo. Dark body, no head or lacing. Inviting sherry nose, licorice and roasted, coffee notes and dark fruits and berries. Lingering, and smooth full bodied. Complex, well-balanced and like a dessert

On tap at Delirium Hoppy Loft. Jet black with a small beige/brown head. Quite full bodied, almost thick in the mouth, but very smooth too. Aroma starts very hoppy and bitter, but with elements of whiskey/booze. Taste gives plenty of hoppy bitterness with the booze elements and maybe even a bit of a coffee undertone. Finish gives more of the coffee and a little spiciness. Can taste the strength, but it is a well balanced sipper.

Small light brown slightly bubbly mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet sour-ish funky, brett, soil, bloodlike minerals, alcohol, very overripe fruits, dark malts, dark sugar, bark, licorice, pine needles, harsh hops. Taste is slightly sweet sour-ish funky, bark, brett, soil, alcohol, bloodlike minerals, very overripe fruits, dark malts, dark sugar, fruit stones, sorrel, licorice, sour coffee. Medium to longlasting bitterness, harsh sour-ish boozy mouthfeel. This has turned into something very strange...
