Here at BrewDog, we love the hidden tracks; the unexpected discoveries. The B-Sides.
Take our 10HL pilot kit. It is the place our brewers let those imaginations fly and lay down unpredictable, creative tracks. Our brew team use it to dial in our small-scale experimental brews, each then finding its way to our bars as a draught-only special release.
However, we felt the naming convention used previously – Pilot Brew XXX – didn't fully reflected the ingenuity displayed by our brewers. To depict this a little better we now release each pilot brew as a bona fide B-Side; alongside our production-batch launches that take place at our bars, you’ll be able to discover a flip side in the form of one of our B-Side releases.

On tap at Brewdog Shoreditch. Pours amber, off-white head. Malty and spicy aroma. Sweetish, caramel, fruit, mango, spices, leaving burning sensation in throat. Warming. Not that easy to drink. Interesting combo.

Keg at BD CJ. It pours clear deep red – brown with a respectable off-white head. The nose is rich, sweet – spice, toffee, chilli spice, slight green veg, mango chutney and tangy dried fruits. The taste is slick, warming chilli pepper, tangy fruits, mango chutney, toffee, earth, some alcohol, fruit cake and tropical punch with a warming finish. Medium – full bodied with fine carbonation. I like the idea behind this and the mango chutney vibe, but it isn’t exactly ideally balanced. Good fun nonetheless.

Keg at BrewDog Clapham Junction - London. Pours clear, rich ruby with a creamy, off-white head. Gooey malts in the nose, berries, light plum, fig. Big sweet flavour with heavy malts, ripe and oily fruits, chili bite, berries. Full bodied, chewy, with fine carbonation. Hot on the finish from both the alcohol and the chili peppers, with secondary notes of toffee, bread and ripe fruits, along with a bit of butterscotch. A novel beer, but in the end it’s really not that drinkable.

Keg @ BD Birmingham. Pours clear reddish mahogany, thin head. Aroma is fruity mango and rich booze. Taste is powerfully rich with a good chili heat that lingers at the back of the throat. Mango takes the edge off a touch, but just a bit too much for me.

Keg at Brewdog Edinburgh. Pours clear copper with a thin white head. Aromas of caramel and light tropical fruit. Taste is sweet up front, then the heat comes through from the chilli. Slightly smoky notes, light fruit. Warming finish.
