330 ml. bottle. BBF 28.07.17. Dark ruby amber, creamy disappearing tanned head. Nose is herbal sticky sweet malts, herbal pine resin syrup in the back, sugar & dark bread syrup. Taste is mellow smoked chili, smoked paprika but it is messy with a metallic note following it, metallic herbal, black bread syrup base, there is a strange malty herbal character, chili is passable, weird with smoked paprika. Overall, too metallic, strangely stick malty, chili isn’t the best. Body is the same, it passes but could have been more for sure. Better than a few puzzling chili beers for sure.

Bottle at Blackfriars, Glasgow. Weirdly this is not the first chilli beer I’ve had tonight, so let’s give this little puppy a go. Reddish brown with very little visible carbonation or head. At first the aroma is jarring - certainly not what I was expecting - but it settles into meaty mild chilli pepper, malty notes and stone fruit. The taste isn’t hot, it’s more sweet and gently warming. The balance is well-judged, although you feel the heat on the tongue in the long finish. Strawberry and guajillo in the aftertaste. Extremely well made.

Bottle 330ml @ home
Pours hazy reddish brown with a small off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, smoke and a touch of vegetables. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long malty, caramel, light smokey and a pleasant chili burn in the finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

330ml bottle. Pours very dark. Chilli heat, roasted capsicum, earthy, caramel. More of an adobo sauce type chilli than I’m used to in a chilli beer, but it’s pretty nice.

Bottle at Lebanese in Byfleet. 10/12/16. Bought at Hogs Back Brewery. Surprising lack of aroma. What there is is sweet and yeasty. Dark amber. Thick off-white head. Initially sweet and then the chilli rears its head. Strong but not overdone. Otherwise it’s light bodied. Was suspicious but enjoyed it. Went well with a kebab!

On tap @ Taphouse, Copenhagen. Hazy, dark brown body almost with no head. Quite mild aroma, caramel malt and dry fruit. Flavor is strong, slightly burning chilly, caramel, dry fruit, but too much dominating chilly. Fine body and hot aftertaste. Not in balance, more like a novelty beer.

Bouteille 33cl, BB 28/07/2017 batch# G619.
